Speed sensor doesn't do anything but read pulses from toothed gear inside gearbox/diferential axle.
So question is how many tooths has 1.5 and how many 1.7 gear in dif?
I don't know answer to that, but you should be able to read number of impulses for 1km or mile on sticker on speedo white casing if it differs swap speedos.

My white S2 1.7 had a 1.5 gearbox and did 3500 revs at 60 mph in 5th gear which fits in with the 1.5's top speed. My girlfriend's S2 1.7 has a standard gearbox and does 3000 revs at 60 mph for a top speed just under 120 mph.
Okay so I've now fitted a standard 1.7's gearbox to my 1.7 as second gear went on the last gearbox. I can feel that the gears are longer, but strangely at 60 mph the rev counter still shows 3500 revs!
I used the speed sensor from the 1.5 gearbox in the 1.7 gearbox. Are they different? Am I really speeding and doing 70 not 60 at 3500 revs? I don't want to find out with a flash in my rear view mirror. Exclamation
