Hi guys,
Unfortunately dinosaurs are easier to locate rather than fuel tanks. Afra in Italy and German suppliers are not able to supply tanks as they informed me a while ago.
Looks like I will rebuilt mine and use fuel tank sealer in order to seal the inside from further rusting.
The first two tanks had broken diaphragms within the first years and just in 2004 the tank was so rusted that it was leaking from everywhere
In case anyone knows a corner where I can source a new tank, I 'd be glad to know.

I installed a fuel tank from a carb model 33 on my (fuel injection) 1.7.
There was no connection for the return fuel, so I piped this to the breather pipe, via a tee as low down the pipe as possible.
The only difference is the normal return pipe goes to the bottom of the tank, whereas now you can hear the fuel return running into the tank, but only from near the tank, not from inside the car.
Also, since I previously posted the above in 2004, occasionally the tank blows a small amount of fuel back quite violently if the level is low when I first start to fill it.
I'm not sure if this is related to the return pipe arrangement, as it does not happen often.
Possibly the warm returned fuel stays at the top of the tank, and moves into the filler elbow when the level is low, so that the new fuel partly vaporises when it hits the warm fuel in the filler pipe. |

Four fuel tanks since the car was new? What do you do to them? I'm surprised that after the second new tank you didn't just get one custom-made. |

Hi all,
A couple of days ago I discovered that the fuel tank of my 33 gave up the ghost and leaks. It has been the 4th tank since the car was new and guess what these are not available any more since 2005.
It has been a nightmare to source a new one and looks like I have found a new brand new one in Germany. However it is designated under the part number of the carbed series 3 33.
My question is if the tank for the carbed models will fit in the L-Jetronic model. I know the shape is the same but what about pipes, breather hoses, pipes routing etc.? Are the tanks interchangable between the IE and carbed models?
Any help would be much appreciated,
