Rust shouldn't be so much of an issue in Oz, but check inner wings near suspension struts, wing tops, sills, jacking points, fuel tank, front wing rears which would be tell tale of a posts gone too.
Mechanically whip thru gearbox, 2nd will probably be crunchy-most are so expect and accept that, but should go in first and reverse ok. Clutch slaves can leak, water pumps can leak/be noisy, steering rack boots split (not a big deal if no PAS). Engines pretty tough, but should have had regular oil changes and genuine oil filters with valve.
Check tailgate opens and shuts, electric windows go up and down without glass flopping about.
Drivers seat will probably be knackered.
Hope that helps.

|
Hi all,
I have the opportunity to buy a 1986 Alfa 33 Boxer (1.5, gold leaf I think). I know i'm in OZ but if anyone could give me some tips on what to look out for when I view & test drive it, i'd really appreciate it.
I have a 2005 147, but don't have any experience with earlier Alfas.
Thanks, Andy. |
