Thanks for all the advice. I think I have to make a decision on how long I'm going to keep the car. If it's staying in the family a while I'll get some good suspension otherwise I'll stick to what nee ... |

I have a 91 16 vavle and it's done 150 000 ks on the original suspension so it's feeling a little tired. I'm just after suggestions of what to change while it's out. So far the list is struts, strut b ... |

Can I ask how many kilometres/miles the car had done since its last belt change? |

Higher octane fuel alone will not give you any more power at all. Not a sausage. You can alter the ignition timing to take advanatge of higher octane fuel (or up the compression ration, or .....), b ... |

Ahh memories. My first Alfa was a 1980 sprint with single carb rust and all. Later I moved on to a 1986 Sprint with the twin carbs. Although now I have a 16V which has more power I'll always miss my 8 ... |

Yeah, always run the higher octane even on an unmodified 16V. From what I've noticed you pay more at the pump but if you drive the same you get more milage per tank. Of course this doesn't work if yo ... |

From what I can gather the belt should run flush against the lip of the tensioners. This would put it about 2-3 mm from the edge of the cam sprokets. I noticed while timing mine, when you turn it over ... |

Well from what I've read, stories about 16Vs and timing belts usually end in bad news but this time the news is good. My timing was correct, the knocking noise was weak tappets and after sitting there ... |

When setting the cam timing did you line up the "II" and "I", and then turn the engine over to check the "><" were also aligned? Mine weren't.

Thanks. The reason I'm sure the timing is set correctly is that I must have turned the engine over 10-15 times and I couldn't get the marks any more spot on. Well it wouldn't be the first time I was w ... |

Just changed the cam belts on my 16V but now there is a loud knocking noise that changes with the engine revs, it sounds like hydraulic tappets with no oil. I'm 99% sure I have the timing marks set co ... |

I'm in the middle of doing my belts now and from what I understand you put number 1 cylinder at TDC marked by the "T" on the flywheel. The top camshaft should have 2 marks at 6 o'clock and the bottom ... |

For someone who will soon attempt cam belt replacement on a 16V I found a site that says that a good vice can be used to press them off. I don't know anything of a technical upgrade to fix this. Anyon ... |
