Out of curiosity, what happens if put one of the white Halford's oil filters on, and not one of the proper non-return ones?
And can you tell which type an oil filter is just by looking at it? |

Without valve parts of engine are starved oil on startup i think.
If you look into a pucka filter the valve/spring is fairly obvious.
Proper ones come up on ebay sometimes for a few quid, else about £8 from main stealer.
The genuine filters were orange up to a few years ago (as are fram-NO VALVE!!), but have been black for a while.
