hi, the rack will come out without lowering engine, but you'll find it useful to remove steering arms from the rack to get it out.

To be honest, taking a whole strut out the way is even easier - so as to pull the rack through the steering arm hole. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Agree with Paul- take drivers (rhd) strut off.
Would recommend wrapping the gaiters in cardboard and securing this with cable ties, so that when you wrestle it out/in (it will be a slag), the gaiters don't get damaged

Hi
Having problems getting the rack out of my 33. O/s strut off, steering arms off, but not enough clearance between the gearbox and the underside of the battery area for the rack to slide through where the pipes across the rack connect.
All the best

By battery area I mean the underside of the area between the 1st and 2nd bulkheads, the area where the battery, heater, brake servo, etc, live.

With my experience so far I would not say that.

thanking all the guys who gave me all the ideas how to remove the steering rack from my 33. i managed to do it easily by removing the rh strut without even lowering the engine. its the easiest way. so guys if you happen to need to remove the rack from your 33 dont panic, you need a little bit of time but you succeed that way.
thanks |

Hi
Any chance that you could get a picture of the top of your gearbox.
With my P4 I could not get the rack out with the box in place.
All the best

i will send you 1. my gbox is from a 145. i think the have the same casing, apart from the side mountings that had to be grinded out. i removed the strut, the steering arms and managed ti slide it out without any problem. you have to be careful of the passengers side rack bracket as it gets stuck to the top mounting but i managed to take it out. |

Hi all,
If possible can you share with us the pictures? It can be a good refference for future removal.
