The bad news has just been delivered. My cherished Red Rocket has failed it's Mot with split power steering gaters and I'm advised that the power steering is starting to leak. The gaters are easy, the power steering is the issue.
It's still got a week to go before the old MOT is up. It drives well, starts every time and has been very reliable over the 5 and a bit years I've had it. It has a little over 100K and has 5 spoke Zender alloys which are in good condition with 2 tyres in good condition, the other 2 have maybe 6 months left. Recaro interior, with of course most wear to the drivers seat. Sunroof, electric windows and would offer up quite a lot of useful spares to someone needing a good donor car.
It has a genuine Alfa rear section exhaust that was fitted under 2 years ago and provides a distictive Alfa 'burble' when provoked.
The power steering problems have come at a time, when the credit crunch has got the upper hand on me. Combined with a recent large repair bill for my 156, I simply can't find the funds to get the work done.
I don't have anywhere to store the car, so under the circumstances, I'm open to offers. _________________ paulb |

Paul, i am so sorry to hear that and would like to offer my services to change your rack from power to normal, if you can source a rack. I do not want to see another 33 die. I think it can be done as i think the ser 33 racers bin the powersteering. Let me know. _________________ x2 33 16v

What a pain that I'm losing my 33 empire. I have a power steering rack here complete with tubing and pump that would be easy to replace. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Just to draw a line under my 33 ownership.
I was given someone to contact, Stuart Edwards in Laleham Middx. in a bid to keep my car on the road for at least another 12 months. He 'patched up' the power steering to stop the signs of leaks, so it would go through the MOT and buy me some more time, but when it went back to the MOT station, they flagged up a problem with one of the front suspension struts!
We again ran up against the problem of finding parts and I had to conceed defeat. Stuart decided he'd waive his labour costs and take the car off my hands, otherwise it would have been taken to the breakers in exchange for £30 cash.
As far as I know, it's staying in his yard until he can find the parts to get it back on the road - so at least there's a chance it will survive for a little while longer in his hands.
I'm now down to owning just one Alfa - a blue 2001 156, 1.8. and the Red Rocket will most probably be my 3rd and last 33. _________________ paulb |
