Does anyone have an idea of where can I get the rear axle with disk brakes? _________________ Each time I speed I say, "Dear lord, make me fast and accurate..." |

Must be a few breakers' yards with 33 (2WD) 16v rear axles. You could always turn your car into a P4, which has the rear discs - I have all the bits here if you want em _________________ Hugh B

I guess it's quite rare. The only series 3 that come with rear disk would be S3 QV 16v. _________________ Each time I speed I say, "Dear lord, make me fast and accurate..." |

Surely it's not too difficult to do a rear disc conversion on a drum axle anyway? I seem to remember there being somebody who offered conversion kits... _________________ Hugh B

Hi,
I'm not sure, but I think That all 33s with ABS brakes have discs all round... I have a 33 16v QV with ABS and it has rear discs, but I heard of other 16v that don't... Might have something to do with ABS
All the best

No. AHM doesn't have most things they posted for 33. _________________ Each time I speed I say, "Dear lord, make me fast and accurate..." |

Hi
The P4 and the 33's with ABS had rear disks but not the normal 16V. I have been told that you can use the rear brake setup from a Fiat Uno Turbo on the 33 but I have not had anyone confirm this
All the best

I thought that all 16v's had rear disks. It would probably be worth upgrading the front disks and pads as well as they take the most of the braking force.
PS: Can one drill holes into a normal disk to obtain drilled disks?
Good luck,

Hi,
Do not DIY cross-drilled rotors. These are an important part of your cars braking system, if they fail i.e. crack, they can be dangerous.
Saying that by all means speak to a brake disc manufacturer about cross-drilled disc, they should have the experience in doing this.
Here in OZ, DBA do a range of standard, vented, slotted & cross-drilled disc. Even they don't recommend cross-drilled and that is part of their product line. _________________ Scott Sander

Thanks Scott, wouldn't like to experience a cracked disk.

I'm using Tarox G88. The 33 (even the vented once) front discks are prone to warpping under extensive use. So I don't really see the point in in cooling but weakening them. _________________ Each time I speed I say, "Dear lord, make me fast and accurate..." |

Serpent33,
I think the discs generally warp because they overheat in the first place...
Are 33 parts widely available / cheap in singapore? I'll be heading through there later this year, might pick up some bits

Oh! They are quite cheap. Can call me when you are here. 9188 1224. Where are you from again?
About the brakes, based on the wear rate, the material is quite soft actually. Both disks and pads. You'll definately need to change the pads to match any uprated rotors or they may heat and fade very rapidly. I had a moment of thinking about my loved ones when my Tarox disks were fitted on with original pads.... _________________ Each time I speed I say, "Dear lord, make me fast and accurate..." |
