Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a 33, found a nice example, but it may need a clutch?
Is this expensive and is it an easy job????
Also, if anyone knows of a car for sale, please let me know.
MUST HAVE MOT AS I NEED TO USE NOW AND ON A DAILY BASIS.
Thanks

Clutch is about a 6 hour job if you know what you are doing. _________________ Presntly own

WOW, no I don't, it would have to go to a garage.
I guess this would make it expensive then????? |

Tell us more about the car and we can make an assessment of what a fair price would be bearing in mind the work needed. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Red 33s are very inclined to fade and go pink, looks like that one is well on the way.
The Champagne sportwagon has been at that price on the AROC classifieds for months from which I would conclude it is over-priced. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

The mileage may/ may not be genuine- the seat looks a little shagged but then it is an old car- check wear on steering wheel, gear knob, pedal rubbers etc.
The 'weak' clutch may be a leaky slave cylinder- £20-£30 part and 30-60 mins with good pliers.
Make sure steering rack gaiters not split and fuel tank not rotten, as these could be the death nails.
I personally don't like the scrapyard setting.
Good luck.

I actually know that scrapyard and it's not too bad, it is West Surrey and therefore a bit posh! _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Presumably they keep afghan hounds instead of rottweilers then? _________________ If it aint broke, fiddle with it until it is!

£795 spares or repair...way off in my opinion.
You would be lucky to get that much for a good 1.7ie with tax &test. _________________ Presntly own

This one does have test, 'till September.
I don't remember what their canine of choice was but I do recall it was much smarter than than the ones just down the road in Aldershot!
I'd have though a fading 1.7i.e. with six months ticket but a questionable clutch is probably worth £500 absolute tops and I supect nearer £400, less if there is any significnat rust.
The paintwork would kill it for me. It's hard to love a car with fading paintwork. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

As for the others...they have all been on the market for a good while now and all are (in my opinion) overpriced.
The 16v sport wagon is perhaps a £1000 over what you could realistically expect in the current market.
The white series2 veloce is a real looker but still priced probably twice current market value.
As for the red 1.5ie ( I have a soft spot for these as I had one and it was a fabulous little car) £500 for a possible seized engine? I think I would offer £150 max for that.
There is a sport wagon on ebay right now (very rare) I'll be very surprised if it achieves four figures.
Just my opinion of course.
I would give em a call and make some daft offers, nothing to lose... _________________ Presntly own

What colour Paul? I have to say if that Champagne Sportwagon was black or green i'd be tempted, colour makes such a difference. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

No, all I know is that the guy had two people coming to look at it - one from Ireland and one from Germany and whoever bought it did so without bargaining. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

The sport wagon on ebay recently went for a mere £220.
With a few 33s on the market at the moment advertised in four figures and not moving, just proves values wont be going through the roof anytime soon.
I reckon it will be a good 10 years before 33s start reaching the sort of values that red sport wagon sold for. _________________ Presntly own

I think there is a very limited buyer group for 33's, you've got to really want one, and I think buyers of good one's will be people that had one maybe 15 years ago or so and fancy one as a toy or want to reminisce as part of a mid life crisis perhaps.
Early 80's bikes like the yamaha lc are now fetching serious money being snapped up by youth relivers or to fullfill a childhood dream. _________________ If it aint broke, fiddle with it until it is!
