Can anybody tellme if there is any difference between the 1500 and 1700 heads apart from the inlet valve size? After driving daughters 1700 I've decided to look out for a 1700 for mine, but I'd like to do the samehead mods I did when I rebuilt my 1500 as they made quite an improvement throughout the rev range. I've got some spare 1500 heads and I could start moding them while I wait for a motor to turn up. Also I want to convert the 1700 to solid lifters as well. I can get the heads reseated for the bigger inlets but it would be a waste of time if the ports were much different. Look forward to some info.

Yes, the cylinder heads are different on 1500 and 1700.
On 1700 a part of the combustion chamber is recessed in the cylinder heads.
If you try to fit 1500 cylinder heads on a 1700 you will get compression ratio of about 20:1 !
You will then have to modify the 1700 pistons as well.

Thanks Matt
My calculator don't count that high but I was talking about the heads. Always read the fine print.
