|
|
After converting my Alfasud front suspension to alfa 33 outboard brakes, using alfa 33 "spica" struts and the control arms (the ones with the ball joints in em) from an early 33... the camber is way off! We have like +0.7 on the right and about +0.2 on the left (difference could be attributed to the angle of the ground). According to the stat's it should be about -2deg, so that is way out!! What are we missing !? Are there different control arms or something? (the distance from the ball joint center to the mounting point center is about 450mm on the arms we have)
please help
Jeremy

I've just asked this question on another posting before seeing this one.

I was wondering, when converting Sud brakes to 33 brakes, what do you do about the handbrake?

Regarding handbrake,
My Alfasud has a hydralic handbrake on the rear discs and no cable handbrake. It is registered as a rally car and is therefore legal in Australia
You can swap the whole Alfa 33 rear end to the Sud for the hand brake I believe.

Hi
I think the mounting points for the front arms on the front cross member are different as well, same for those front arms.
All the best

Are you sure you haven't got the strut pan sides confused ie left instead of right etc.
Hello all long lime no speak, no sud/33 still, 1.9 205 GTI for the past three months(£120 from the auctions stolen recovered, non starter 1993 90K discovered documentation in the boot along with engine ECU , I wonder who put that there , 10 mnths MOT, full main dealer service history, mint except for lock damage, me chuffed somewhat), much much faster, handles nearly as well but still lacks that certain something (i.e. inadequate brakes, squeaks/rattles, intermittent electrics etc ) |

It does(effect camber) as I have confused them in the past the springs sit at the wrong angle and hence knock the camber out. If you look ay the pan it is angled as the spring doesn't sit at 90deg. to the strut. As the camber is out by different amounts on each side this is what made me think this is what you have done.
Hope this helps. |

My thinking suggests that the strut itself could only effect camber if it was bent or the mounting points were moved. The only way I could see the spring pan would effect camber is to change the ride height, but that wouldn't be by much anyway....? The fact that the spring isn't straight couldn't "bend" the strut into positive camber, surely!? Please correct me if I'm wrong

The camber is effected by ride hight on the 33 as when you lower it(the car with shorter springs) the camber is wrong and you get uneven tyre wear |
