Hi everyone,

I'm currently developping an emulator for Alfa Tester to be used on 33s fitted with Marelli Fuel System.
I was wondering if any of you has already used either the FLT/Alfa Tester/Examiner on these 33s and could tell me exactly what functions are available in the factory diag computer.
I suspect there is a way of clearing faults in memory via the diag plug, also adjusting a few parameters but today i'm stuck with readings only.

Besides, if any of you got any info on the protocol used in bosch systems fitted to Alfa 33 (most helpful would be Motronic ML4.1) i'd be grateful.

With best regards,
zp

Have you seen 6th icon from left on the top frame of http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/

Direct link to it is http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/injectin.htm, but I like those icons on top because Keith has put there valuable information not only on injection.

Regards Tino

hi,

yes, i've been there all right.
the page on IAW says : " Nothing here yet "
besides, the info i'm looking for doesn't appear on the workshop manual, which I have (thanks Keith) ; i'm looking for someone who used or uses the Alfa Tester, of has access to it, or has insider information about the intrinsics of the diag protocol. Sorry, not an easy one, but hopefully it will end up with a nice hand-held tester? hoping to hear from you,

best regards,
zp

Sorry, but in that case there is nothing I can help you with.
3-4 years ago I tried to find here in Croatia Alfa tester, and at that time AR dealers told me that they had upgraded their testing PCs with new software which excludes all 33s Sad
There was nobody that had any knowladge about 33 AR tester.

I wish you good luck with project.

Hi

I have next to nothing on the IAW system. I have just got the 1992/93 wiring diagrams including those for the IAW system.

Just need to get a scanner sorted.

All the best

Keith

Hi,

Thanks for the info, unfortunately i had gone on holiday and missed the auction.
Besides, my first prototype is now fairly advanced and i hope it to be functional at the end of the month.
Have been hacking the ML4.1 too, but still a long way to go.

Best regards,
zp

Hi!

Got my first prototype working...using a nice blue LCD display!
The little EPM8 from ZPower, inc. can display :
-engine rpm
-water temp
-intake air temp
-batt voltage
-injection duration
-ignition advance
-manifold absolute pressure
-throttle angle
-lambda value
-idle control parameters
-diagnostic trouble codes

Got to clean my room now!

hi,

yes i intend to "mass manufacture", made a custom designed PCB and sourced connectors.
soon i'll have a nice kit ready with full installation instructions.
currently only Marelli 8F.86 fitted 1.3ie Alfa 33 is supported but ML4.1 version (1.7 16V) will follow as soon as i'm done cracking the box (having trouble figuring a few things out at the moment)
I will go on with MP3.1 ECU.
besides, as far as i can recall Jetronic ECUs don't support diagnostic (no diag socket on the car) ; adding an ECU monitor would still be possible but would require to carry out extensive modification to the ECU internal circuitry. I doubt "mass production" would be possible.

best regards,
zp

Hi Very Happy

Looks good...

Were do you connect it to the ECU??
Do you use the terminal, for the "Alfa Tester"???

You diagnostic tool will give the error codes, or it will translate them directly??

all the best

Hi,

yes of course i'm interfacing with the diagnostic socket for the alfa tester.

more images of my interface for Marelli ECU here :
http://alfaimola.free.fr/technique/injection/epm8/index.html

I will translate fault codes in human-readable language...todays LCD screens are easily available and don't cost much...i'm through with 7-segment displays....

with best regards,

Hi Guys, cracking topic.... and some great work!

Does anyone know what this connector is for on the LE3 Jetronic? Can it be used to get similar info out of this ECU??? :

Cheerz,

Bob

Hiya Gritsop,

I vaguely remember that. But that only uses one of the pins on the connector? CAN the others be used to gain diagnostic information?

Yes, it is definitely a plug for connecting Alfa Tester.
And it looks the LE3 is able to talk to some diag equipment.
I sure like to have a spare LE3 ECU to crack when i'm done with the ML4.1 box.

I suppose fiat tester connector pinout is more or less standard and features one ground line and two digital data lines (voltage levels may vary though)
