				Hi all,

Iv'e noticed a spade connector under the bonnet thats got me scratching my head. It's situated on the engine block exactly half way between the heads and it's visable by looking under the air intake plenum.

Just wondered what it is as i'm (doesn't take much)

Hopefully i've described its position well enough for someone to know what i'm going on about!!

Cheers |

				| It would be where number 4 is pointing( roughly) to but it may be easier to get the camara out |

On that diagram no4 is oil presure sending unit for control lamp in instrument dash.

Roughly at same place in engine bay where is number 4, (above or around flywheel) flywheel rpm sending unit, there are also lambda probe connector , temperature unit connector...

A picture would help, but also would description of wire colors on that connector.

Are they both black, or one is gray, other i pink or blue with white or black stripe .... _________________ Tino Vatavuk

				Thanks Bob, Tino.

I took it out this morning (hopefully pics on the way) but going by the diagram and what you said Tino it looks to me like the oil pressure switch.

The only thing is there are no 'spare' wires down there and it looks to me like it's never been connected |

				Hi Lee,

Thanks for the photos!

I have my inlet manifold off at the moment! I can assure you - there's a wire connected to mine!!!! (TINO - there's ONE wire... it's black).

And it's directly on top of the engine block, about here :

Got it?!?!??!?

				Cheers for that Bob!!

I might be losing the plot here a bit but when i turn on the ignition the oil light comes on as it should, then once the engine is started the light goes out as it should. What is going on? There's only one oil pressure switch and mine is wireless. Am i missing something?

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for this so i can get it connected up? |

				You have two choices:

1) when pressure is reached, that switch is actually ground, which means that original oil pressure wire is somewhere connected to ground by someone.

and other without much sense

2) it is connected to some other switch, overheating, coolant temp...

3) when presure is reached, that switch disconnets ground, it that case you connector is connected to air

From top of mind I think wire is light gray(or light blue?) with black outershield. I'm sure Bob will tell you right color. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Hmmm.... here it is on mine (I know it's a rubbish photo! It was dark AND raining! ) :

Defo the oil pressure switch.

I'm gonna go away and have a think about WHY your oil pressure light APPEARS to work.

I'd disconnect mine and start her up - but she's in many peices at the moment!!!!

Lee - do you have Alfa (no) control panel?

				Bob,

I don't have the control panel(was it an optional extra?), and how come your's is in bits?........no problems hopefully!

Tino,

Surely if my wire was connected to ground all the time then the oil light would either be on all the time or never come on??? |

There is another location for the pressure swicth... Look to the oil filter area. On its side it should be another switch...

The boxer engine has 2 locations for this kind of switch. They were designed for a oil pressure gauge and the other for the light in the dashboard. Remember the 1.5 QV (series 1)????

All my series 2 cars, were using the "side" location (by the oil filter), with the top "blanked" with the small piece that is identified by the number 2 in the diagram...

Now my 16v, uses the top location for the switch, and the one, next to the oil filter is "blanked"

Hope that helps

				Never knew that!!

Thanks for the advice, i will check that out when it stops raining!

If it turns out that that is the case it seems odd they blanked the top position with another pressure switch. |
