|
|
Hi, everyone, hope you could clear something up for me. My current 16v is supposed to have a cat, but the person i bought it off removed it. The mot is coming up soon and i want it to pass emisions, by fitting my fixed cat (if i get if fixed) or a new one.
After reading about the (s30 connector) http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2772 by the battery on my LHD car and looked at http://www.sanderfamily.com/ (goto ALFA THINGS / IGNITION ADVANCE on the left)
and this thread http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2426&highlight=cat
I have come to the conclusion that my car is currently setup for no cat and 97 ron fuel as there is nothing on the connector (am i correct)? I read on one of the posts that i should have a relay type connector that shorts out certain connectors depending on if i have a cat on the car and what ron fuel i'm using. I also read that if a cat is fitted and the wrong ron is selected this can damage the cat.
For the moment, running no cat and using 95 ron fuel what needs to be shorted to what? When i get my cat fitted, again what will be needed to be shorted to what? As i don't want to ruin my cat, I don't have anything to look at, as there is no relay type connector there but was thinking that pin 27 (purple / white ) needs to be earthed when cat is present, but doesn't for current setup and pin 10 (purple / black ) doesn't need to be earthed, but does for current setup. Are these red and yellow connectors available (does anyone know where, or have one?) or should i just short them myself?
Thanks in advance, her are some pics of what's on my car, or should i say what's not on my car?

hi,
for cat & low octane you need a blue relay
for 95 octane, on picture below, short between pin #10 (purple&black wire) and ground (black wire)
for cat, short between pin#27 (purple&white wire) and ground (other black wire)
regards,
zp

Ok, now im confused , according to the samderfamily link, a blue relay (pin 85 / 27 & 86 / 10, both grounded) is for 91 ron with cat, we use 95 in the U.K. Is it; if you ground pin 27 (it tells the ecu there is a cat) and if you ground pin 10 (it tells the ecu the car is using low ron) a bit like binary?
1,1 blue cat ground lambda ground octane = 91 ron
1,0 yellow cat ground lamdba = 95 ron
0,1 red no cat ground octane = 95 ron
0,0 nothing no cat = 97 ron
If this is the case should i not use the 1,0 yellow configuration? _________________ x2 33 16v

hi,
sorry i got confused
where i live 95 fuel is low-octane and 98 is high octane ; no 91 available
but you got it right, it works exactly (binary) like you describe it

I took a chance and grounded the black and purple wire. Now, last night i cleaned off my rotor arm and contacts on the dizzy cap. It went a little quicker, but now it seems more lively, should it make that much of a difference? Its much more fun , doing an oil change soon and getting rid of that halfords oil filter (original one in its place)
Thanks _________________ x2 33 16v
