Hi,

There is always something to deal with my Alfa... Friday morning fuel odor was coming inside the cabin via the center vents. It was a knackered fuel line under the intake manifold. Had it replaced Saturday morning within an hour... Wink

I had to have the manifold welded a few weeks back, but that's the only thing thats needed repairing in the first 8 months/9k miles of Alfa ownership. It's had an oil change, HT leads and a full set of goodyear F1's though.

Just need to give it a proper clay/polish/wax again. Also need to get the cigarette lighter working.

Unfortunately Paul I cannot weld at the moment but as I spend a fortune getting others to do it for me, I am going to college in September to learn basic welding and body repairs. So who knows in the future I may be able to help.

I was delighted to hear that your white 33 sailed though its MOT and long may it continue to do so. Smile

Mine's never ticketyboo.
Last weekend water got into the drivers footwell while it was parked outside in the rain. No idea how it got in, and it has never done that before.
Brakes are hideously loud but not 100% of the time.
Clutch cylinder is getting worse, and I'm still contemplating the head rebuild in the hopes it fixes the amount of clattering noise which eminates from my car while I drive down the road. =|
When I put the wipers on high, the battery warning light glows dimly. Sometimes the starter motor is slow. Apparently these relate to the ignition switch. Rolling Eyes

All of my series 2 cars' battery warning lights glow dimly when windscreen wipers on high - think it's fairly normal.

On both my Series 1s, I do not appear to have any problems with warning lights coming on, but if the windows are not all that wet, ie driving in fine drizzle or with road spray the wipers appear very slow as if the wiper motor is struggling. I cannot help but feel that the motors are on the verge of burning out but they still continue to function and to be honest they have had plenty of work in the past few weeks.

These little foibles are not just restricted to Alfas though. When driving my Dolomite, I have found that whenever I turn on the heated rear window, it appears to draw so much power that the indicators slow down to the point where they hardly flash at all.

As my knowledge and confidence to deal with car electrics is limited, I have rather ignored these problems, but if anyone has any advice that they could give me, I'd be grateful.

Chris

Chris,

More cars! a Dolly?! Are u running a motor museum Laughing

Is your dolomite a sprint? I had a 1500HL overdrive, way way back between the ages of 17-19. I had the sprint alloys, but dreamed of getting my hands on a real red or yellow sprint complete with highly delicate engine.

The 1500hl was luxurious, but completely gutless, and it ate rear void bushes about once a fortnight!

At 19 i got my alfasud, and that was it Twisted Evil

When i win the lotto, get some more space and time, after i've found a good F40, SZ, sud ti, laverda jota, and KH400, i'll probably look for a dolly sprint too.

John

It certainly feels that way John. I bought the Dolly for SWMBO who has an auto only licence. She had wanted to carry out a rolling restoration and it came with a mountain of spares inc panels so it seemed a viable proposition. However having driven it for a while she decided that she wants me to help her upgrade to manual so she can have the better of my Series 3 Cool

Anyway the motor "museum" is being seriously slimmed down with the Dolly and my two series "Land Rovers" leading the way to the exit. The Frontera (which my eldest has his eye on) will be next followed by one of the Rangies. By the time I have finished there will be 1 Rangie, a Series 1, a Gairdinetta and a Series 3.

As you will have seen my Series 1 is on the road again with its new MOT and tax and there being no room in the garage at present is parked outside the house. Over the weekend I noticed a couple from up the road looking at it closely and the next I know they are on the doorstep asking me to sell it to them. I thought about it for a while but having made so much progress with it, I would rather keep it and continue with its restoration. I am not sure my bank manager will be very happy about that but what the hell, he has had his pound of flesh for this month. Crying or Very sad

Hey! I just got back from two weeks "en France". I deserved a holiday!

So be careful what you say about me, Lee.... I'm still "watching".

I doubt it's the alternator, because my kitset voltage gauge (connected elsewhere in the wiring loom) tells me all is OK.

My brake warning light started flashing, so it looks like a new set of front pads for me. Think i'm going to get some Black Diamond Predator pads.

I've also got a slight ticking that will need further investigation. Might be the manifold again, but it was welded up only a few weeks ago so i'm hoping it isn't that.
