Well I decided to cancel my previous order after waiting 15 months and ordered direct from CSC. Ordered on 2nd Jan, delivered on 10 Jan!!!! Bit of a difference eh? Goes to show it pays to cut out the middle man.

Looks quite similar to standard manifold from memory but I'm sure it'll be slightly different and have a better flow otherwise it'd be pointless CSC developing it. All I've got to do now is rebuild my car so I can fit it!!!

Hi,

Looks very nice! I DO like the wording in the wrapping ... "Marmitte" Laughing

What is the difference of the CSC manifold compared to the standard crossover one?

Regards,

I believe marmitte is the Italian word for exhaust...

I'll compare this one to my standard crossover manifold, I'm sure they must be different, I need to justify the vast expense (it was 450 euros!!)

Hi,

Looks great. Just like one i had years ago on a sud, when they were called ANSA. With complete ansa system exhaust note was deeper and power kicked in like a turbo at 4,500rpm-6,000.

Only drawback (apart from cost!) was ground clearance.

Standard cat crossover manifold links same cylinders, ie pairing fronts and backs, but has awkward pipe around sump, for clearance/shortness.

Thanks for the photo John, its a great help - my standard manifold is still on the engine thats sitting on the floor of my garage so it would've been difficult to clearly see the difference. I'm very relieved to see they're quite different and good to hear you noticed a difference. I will report once fitted (although this could be rather a long time away!)

ANSA are still going by the way.... www.ansamarmitte.it

Yes Johnboy, standard manifold will be sold on, let me know if you're interested and I'll try to remove it from the engine for you.

yep, its the same as the one in photo posted by John - it is for a cat equipped car, although I'm sure it could be adapted for a non cat car. I decatted my car a few years ago and used the normal non cat manifold. When I recatted the car for the new MOT, I refitted a crossover type manifold and didn't really notice any drop in power. The crossover manifold is much more efficient I think and made up for the losses from the cat.

It may take me a while to remove it, but if you're interested Johnboy, I'll give you first refusal...

Hi Rich B
Your new manifold looks the dogs dangly bits Very Happy Cool . Someone else has mentioned that the problem with the old ANSA manifold was how much ground clearance was lost. Can you tell if your new manifold is the same depth as a standard one or if its deeper, by how much?
Do you know what the power is before you fit the manifold and are you going to get it checked after? What improvements do they claim?

Regards rsfruitbat

On my 8v I had the straight configuration, and then later I had the "crossover" one too. I will state these were both original Alfa exhausts though (none of your fancy stuff!)

Some points I noticed :

1. The straight seemed to have decent power through the range, whereas the crossoever wasn't generally as good apart from at 4,000rpm (ish) where it was much better. I think this is to do with the variable tuned lengths in the straight which handles all rpm decently. In the crossover, due to it's equidistant design it was tuned more to one frequency and therefore just some rev ranges.

2. Much of the unique "boxer" sound seemed lost with the crossover - I remember it sounding completely undistinct.

HOWEVER, like I said, this was just a standard exhaust setup on an 8valve and it wasn't a patch on that work of art you've got there Rich!

Edit : I'm a little confused now actually, as I thought my crossover looked like the one John_33_16v has in his photo but thought that it was equal length pipes which the photo clearly isn't. Just going for a lie down.

Bob

Al - I ordered the manifold from CSC by contacting them via the "contact us" part of the website (www.csc-marmitte.it) but if you want the email address of the sales department, its office@csc-marmitte.it - the lady is called Veronica and couldn't be more helpful.

Bobbber, thanks for your comments, I found with standard non cat manifold and (VERY loud) OMP centre box, the power was all top end, on the motorway, acceleration from 80-120mph was very good (not so good on the ears though!). When I recatted and put on a normal cat manifold, I found there was a bit more torque low down although I'm not sure how much of this was down to the removal of the group N centre box or the crossover manifold. I didn't find the lovely boxer sound was any different with either type of manifold, just louder with the OMP system!!

rsfruitat - not sure about ground clearance, doesn't look like it'll be a problem, in fact I think the standard crossover manifold projects a bit more anyway, particularly the pipe that goes to the left front cylinder. Don't think I'm gonna do before and after power runs as my engine won't be running until its rebuilt and then it won't be standard, it'll have flowed heads and posh cams, maybe a bit more capacity and a change of ECU....

its exactly the same as the picture john 33_16v posted - its for a 16v cat car and has a flange at the point where it joins the centre box. Don't get too excited though, it'll be a while before I can remove it....

Thanks John!! I've already got Supersprint cat back system and I don't find it too bad at all. If you want loud try an OMP group N system on a 33, that makes your ears ring after a long trip!!!!

Al - I mentioned it in an earlier post, it was 450 euros (approx £350) including delivery. A little more expensive than a certain supplier but at least I actually got it!!! Finally got a cheque the other day after threatening legal action
