Hi,
So the story is I've changed the oil pump for a better unit and filled up with nice new oil/filter. Then I tried to start it and ........nothing. Turns over with not so much as a hint of firing. When i replaced the pump I left the dizzy in situ (untouched) and fed the new pump up through to engage with the dizzy in exactly the same place so why does it seem like the timing's all gone to pot? I've got spark etc.
What have I done? or is this a case of the Alfa gremlins at work?
Any help much appreciated as I'm currently close to torching it. |

hi, when the pump is off nothing holds the ignition rotor : it can rotate freely ; i guess you have caused it to rotate by fiddling with the new pump when trying to get it in.
i think you're in for an ignition timing adjustment

Hi
16V so the dizzy doesn't control the timing (uses a crank position sensor). The dizzy just send the spark to the appropriate cylinder. However entirely possible that the distributer is not aligned anymore.
First thing is to check you are getting a spark.
All the best

And the numpty of the year award goes to...........me!!
Just as you guys said, the dizzy was 90 deg out Guess I should have locked it off some way before pulling the pump out. Oh well, you live and learn. All running fine now.
