Take the bottom radiator pipe off too for drainage.

Or not. Whoops- that explains why nothing came out all those times!

Hey Zenith, you beat me to it,
tvatavuk, i done it now
I just got back from doing mine and can confirm that on the passenger side it is the furthest rear nut, which will dribble all over the oil recirculation pipe. |

Can someone post a diagram with the bolts that need to be undone?
I'm doing my rad soon and would like to fully drain the coolant and i'm not totally sure which ones it is.
Thanks. |

BigAL.
If there was oil but no coolant then you opened wrong bolt/plug, try one next to it. |

Hi,
I've always opened the plugs separately, and with the expansion cap off, possibly even the rad off- same result.
Al it's the middle bolt/plug -17mm head i think??

I tried the passanger side first with the header tank cap on and nothing came out, i then did the drivers side with the cap on and when it stopped i removed the cap and more came out. I didnt try the passanger side with the cam removed, i Will try that, thanks.
Last year I was told to remove the old coolant and then fill up with a certain amount of new coolant, I think 4 litters and then top up with water, but as I couldn’t get the old coolant out of the other head I don’t think all the old stuff came out. The coolant is the correct clear blue. I will try the other 2 bolt on the passenger head, I thought it was the middle bolt. |

Hi
Is this with the cap off the header tank? If not then it will naturally use one to let water out and one to let air in.
All the best

Al,
Mine has been exactly like yours every time i've done it- coolant from drivers side head only- always leaves me feeling a little worried.

Hey guys, I drained my coolant last year but it only came out of one head, I thought that maybe the hole was clogged up. The other day I drained my coolant and again it only came out of one side but this time I think it was the opposite side, I can’t remember. It came out of the driver’s side this time, does coolant come out of the passenger side as well, as this is the head I will be removing? I removed the middle bolt and even put a screwdriver up in there, there was a little oil but no coolant. |
