Hi
Neighbour did something similar a few years ago driving a Nova. Sounded really rough but nothing too obvious. Did a compression check and one cylinder was miles out. Took the rocker cover off and found it had broken a rocker in 2.

It was an L reg 1.7 ie. I'll post a pic of the twisted con-rod tommorrow.

yes it was the rod, i pulled the rod out of the alternater with a pair of pliers!

What rpm was it at?
Was it the conrod coming thru?
I've seen a similar hole in the block in the flesh on a Scooby XT 1800 turbo boxer back in the 80's- that was the conrod.

we pushed this 1.7 ie a bit too hard, this hole is huge. whoops.
