Mine got a little louder and deeper, not deep enought for me though

Really, I thought they tended to get quieter as the soot tends to muffle the harder sounds.

After a while it will get a bit louder as the exhaust cokes up

I collected my car with it's shiny new Longlife exhaust (Basingstoke branch) this afternoon, £515 inc. VAT.
On the plus side:
From the quick look I've had in the wet in a hurry (had to get back to work) it looks like a very neat job.
It's quieter than the old mild steel system, just developing a growl above 4k which is just what I wanted (this is our sensible car don't forget, I need it to be pleasant when cruising on the motorway).
The flat spot between 2.5 and 3k seems to have improved
Tail pipe nicely centred in the cutout.
Performance seems no worse than with the old system.

I too have a full ss system on my 155, longlife with custom twin exit pipes. Cost me £550 3 years ago, but £165 of that was to get the 2nd pipe to wrap around to other side of the rear end, amazing job.
I'm going back there next month to have a center & rear zorst done on the 33 sw.

Hey don't know if this helps at all but my exhuast fell off on boxing day and no where local to me could get a standard system in under a week or for less than £200, so i took mine to Powerflow and got a ss system from the manifold back for £300 i don't have a cat but when quoting they said it was an extra £50 if i had a cat model (they didn't believe me when i said it never had a cat)
But powerflow did a really good job with free yearly checks and it sounds great!
guess this would only help if you have a powerflow franchise near you.
Charlie.

I think I used long life to alter my tail pipe, If its the one round the back of Basingstoke's cinema. They are ok, suprised they are still there as they never had any work on 2 yrs back and were talking of redundance even back then.

I was refering to a made center section, sorry, off the shelf should be about £150
I hade mine made, using my original cat, a cat by itself is about £150 that can be welded in place

"you can get SS center section with standard/sports cat for £300"
Which makes £550ish for a custom system fitted seem not unreasonable.[/u]

Thats not a problem as i would like to remove the cat and replace with wadding and silencer pipe, to be used as a de cat and silencer for track day. I do not want t to distroy a good cat and want it to look like it has a cat.
I looked for a post of mine that had links to several cats for the 16v but cant find it.
you can get SS center section with standard/sports cat for £300.

Spare bed, even I wouldn't put it on our bed!
Hollowed out cat is fractured, that's why I'm in the situation.
Longlife in Basingstoke have quoted me £520 for a custom stainless system (and extra £50 on top of that for a 'performance' cat). This compared with maybe £250 for a standard system plus £50 to get someone to fit it (because I'm too busy at the moment.
Anyone any experience of Longlife (they seem to be all round the country, franchise I expect).

These things are sent to try us- and drive us nuts in the process.
You're also very brave putting that stuff on the bed- my wife would kill me if she found out
I think if you get really stuck you could possibly cut off the rogue bracket.
What i've done before is to cut off the original hanger 'legs', drill holes in them big enough for exhaust clamp u-bolt, then use an exhaust clamp. This will put the hanger legs under the pipe- hope that makes sense. Don't cut up the pipe though unless you're very sure!!!

J.C
you are not having much luck, have you tried where i got mine from?
www.cats4less.co.uk,
seems like their web site is not working
Are you going to keep the car as long as possible?
If so get one made out of SS and buy a universal cat, welded in place or made removable, that is what was should have been done with mine.
You still got your hollowed out original cat, want to part with it??

Post subject: Exhaust - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
Just unwrapped the replacement and exhaust and this one is wrong too.
I am right aren't I, the rubbers are never going to stay on those brackets, surely they are the wrong way up? You'll notice the rear one is correct.
Added to which the silencer they've sent is an 8V one I think, it fits (loosely) inside the cat pipe, despite being the bit that is slotted and should sleeve over the cat pipe.
Where can I get a correct exhaust system, do I really have to get one made?
