My 1990 SW had them and also my 1991 16V has them... You can not replace solid ones by the bearing version, or vice-verse, unless you also replace the shocks. The mounts (the tube) are diferent. On my SW I had to replace the bearing version by rubber solids, because I instaled some series 2 shocks that I send for repair and tuning. So now I use solids with power steering, and everything feels the same as it was.[/quote]

Hi
It is only the very late series 3s that have the bearing at the top. Most have them in the normal place. Bearing at the top is far more normal for cars; suppose the bearing in the middle means that it always has the force of the spring on the bearing.
All the best
Keith

Thanks suds, just spoke to alex, he has one left and will check the condition of it on Saturday.
The one on the left is ser 3
I can't rmember if i spoke to Alex in the past about it
That's me sorted out for the road now, now I need the question about the bearing confirmed before I fit my solid top mounts for the track day and SPAR next year!!

there the ser 2 solid rubber ones, the ser 3 have a lump of metal tubing in the middle with a removable bearing. I just wondered why they put a bearing in the ser 3, is it because of the powersteering, if i was to replace with the solid rubber ser 2 topmounts would it cause stress on the powersteering?

Anyone??
Also the ser 3 topmount has a bearing in it, is this for the powersteering, will fitting the solid rubber only type from a ser2 cause a problem or a solid topmount?

Post subject: Ser 3 top mounts
Both my top mounts are shot, I have been waiting months for my Alfa parts supplier to supply them, they in turn have been waiting for them to come from their supplier in Italy.
In the mean time I have got hold of one top mount but have not fitted jut one, for fear of unsettling the car. I thought of fitting it to the NS as this side is the side that gets the most abuse form going round roundabouts.
Should I wait until I get another or should I fit 1 in the mean time?
