Sent it to Cedar Lodge, Gu33 7HU address, was a fair size box with all the bits we spoke about. I'll investigate, bloody Christmas post |

Are you calling me a pensioner? They fit perfectly!
No sign of the parcel yet Alex, did it go to work (Old Halls Barn) or Home (Cedar Lodge). I might have to bite the bullet and get Mangoletsi to send me some of those eyewaterngly expensive gaskets that go either side of the insulators. |

Jeremy it does sound very similar to symtoms i had which was indeed the insulator gaskets under the throttle bodies, worth changing considering you now have them sir |

Hi,
My 33 runs better in the wet too.
The ecu is under the parcel shelf on the passenger side. Contort yourself in the passenger footwell so you can look under the parcel shelf, undo the two 10mm nuts holding the ecu up and drop it down. There is a metal lock tab to pull out then the ecu plug comes off the ecu- worth disconnecting the battery 1st.

OK, an update.
I've changed the distributor cap and rotor arm (AHM had already fitted new HT leads) and cleaned up the earth points above the starter motor, the one one the bulkhead near the inlet tract and the the two battery connections. I've also changed the lambda sensor.
I'm now to the point where I only get the misfire when the car has warmed up and I try to make it pull below 2k (i.e. it won't pull cleanly from 30mph in 4th whereas it used to from about 20mph).
A few random questions and observations which may trigger some inspiration from one of you chaps.
Are there any other earth points I should clean up?
How do I disconnect the ECU, I'd like to just make / unmake the connection a couple of times to clean the contacts?
My car has always run better in wet condtions. I don't mean the cold misty conditions that all cars run better in, I mean rain and spray and seriously wet. Driving home from a friend this evening it did, as ever in such conditions, just feel a bit sweeter. Could this be symptomatic of a bad earth somewhere which gets better when it is wet?
Interestly, this evening, I hadn't noticed the misfire so I tried to make it happen which I eventually did by tring to accelerate from about 1500 rpm in fifth. Even more interestly, it seemed that once I'd made it happen then it got worse and was back to it's normal form of anything under 2k in fourth.
I'm also wondering whether I should get the injectors cleaned. Has anybody any experience of this and can they recommend anyone?
Btw, I have forgotten about the possibility of the throttle body insulators but I really don't want to do this job unless I have to.
Your collective wisdom is invited.
Cheers

I had a mysterious misfire on one cylinder for months and it turned out to be the earthing wires for the coil. On S2 cars (not sure about 16v) they connect to an L-shaped metal connector by the starter motor with a 10mm nut. Take these off and clean them with some wire wool, just in case it is that simple. Clean ALL earthing points. |

Sounds like it could be the 5mm thick insulators under the throttle bodies Jeremy, they can crack and splinter then open up when they get hot. Or 1 of the HT leads breaking down. |

You tease Paul!
Dizzy cap is probably worth changing, not sure Adie did that. The other strange thing is that when the car is cold the misfire is not detectable, it seems to get worse as the car warms up. |

It's back running on four cylinders which it wasn't when it arrived there.
Adie did say there was still a slight misfire that he couldn't track down and he didn't have spare lambdas or ECUs to try and he didn't want to charge me for loads of hours trying to track it down.
The slight misfire got worse as I drove it the 40 minutes home from AHM. It's useable but annoying.
I want to stress Adie did everything I asked him to but I'm happy to spend my (free) hours finding the misfire.
Adie did do a cambelt change to and managed to find some tensioners. |

Hi Jeremy, so it's not the plug lead as AHM said |

Indeed but it was fitted by Longlife when they did they exhaust and then possibly disturbed when I had to take it back to them so who knows.
I just want to eliminate it as a cause of the misfire. |

The one on there is pukka Bosch and only three months old.
One local factors quoted £60 + vat for Bosch but I'm taking a little gamble on NKG at £45 + vat from the other local factors. |

Should be about £60 from a good bosch factor, and the propper part will plug straight into the harness.
Don't bother with halfords type universal crap.
Hope it sorts it!

Does anyone have the Bosch reference number for the 16v lamda sensor, I'm sure I had it somewhere but have mislaid it. |
