She runs!!!!! and what a sweetie. 1st turn of the key, such a relief. The Mot has expired while it's been off the road, it needs brake cylinders, a front ball joint and a small plate welding at the front so not too bad, will be back on the road all sorted next week.

Yes I considered fitting new belts to the 9k engine I've got & fitting that (would be less work than repairing this engine), but I could really do with the £s that low mile engine will bring in, I have all the bits to repair the damaged engine so made sense to bolt them on.

Good work, hope it's all sorted soon.
Do you know how old the belts were?
Are you not tempted to drop in the 9k miler you have on ebay?
Cheers,
John

It seems the 16v belts snap more easily than the 8v ones.
I hope the crankshaft bearings weren't squashed..best of luck. At least she wasn't red-lining it!

She was in a traffic jam & had just put it into 2nd, only just moving fast enough to make the speedo needle move.

Post subject: Phone call...."Darling i've Broken Down"
My better half phoned me on Tuesday quoting the above phrase...... i went out to her.......i found her in her lovely freshly panted red M reg 16v........parked on the side of the road......i opened the bonnet......... i believe my next sentance was "ah, that shouldn't be there!",........ as i looked at the snapped cam belt that had burst it's way through the plastic covers!
So the next month is an engine out, replace head & broken bits task. fantastic!
Still you have to laugh
