No the 156 this time, she decided she don't want her steering rack anymore But a new one instead
He has had me 33 there though |

Thanks for the advise guys. I might consider buying the classic rust proofing kit from rust buster and do the entire underneath. At £125 it also saves me forking out the £400 paying a company to do it. Might be a challenge on jack stands though haha.
No real plans, just see how it goes, i'm going to concentrate on getting the car running perfectly, and rust sorted. Then we can look at some upgrades

No real hole, plenty of other things to keep me busy and enjoying my Sprite in this good weather. I'll miss the 33 but it's hugely helped by it going to such a good home.
As Lee said, a stitch in time saves nine (or in the case of rust, 900). Scrape all the loose stuff off and as a minimum treat the rust and underseal. For a proper job:
Scrape
Treat the rust to either dissolve it away or stabilise it.
Paint
Underseal

Re the underseal. I'd be tempted to scrape the old underseal off back to a point where you can see good metal and then treat and re seal. I fell foul of the underseal on my car where it covered a fatalistic rust problem without me really knowing it. |

Nice one Adam, really glad to see your enthusiasm in giving a 33 a a good home, Jeremy must be feeling a hole in his garage/driveway at the mo but must be pleased you had bought it. Keep it up and do you have any plans for the car?. |

Gave the top of the engine a good going saturday. Everything came off, cleaned, checked, and back on. Phlenum and intake came up like new! New dizzy and arm. Cleaned injector plugs and gave everything that had perished i new wrap of self amalgamating tape. Actually runs alot smoother, (loads of shite came out of the intake and throttle bodies). Booked in the a plugs and oil change (ran out of time), so hopefully itl run great after that, although its stopped bothering me so unless it gets worse im happy.
Found some rust along the drivers side - between the sill and underpan where the old underseal had started to peel away. Treated it. Whats the best thing to do here - i dont want it to spread under the seal. Shall i investigate further or do you think it will be fine?

Glad you are enjoying the car, sorry the misfire hasn't benefited from the thrash down the M4.
It only started about 2-300 miles (tops) ago. Interesting about the broken linkage.
The throttle position switch was replaced about two or three years ago with a new one. I believe it only detects full closed and fully open rather than being a full position sensor.
HT leads are (I think) about 4 years 15k miles old.
The previous time I had a misfire (the last big AHM invoice in the file as I recall) Adie solved it by fiddling around with the injector wiring and in particular where the wires went on to the junior power connectors that attach to the injectors. This was also the point at which the HT leads were all changed.
One of the things I might have done if I'd kept the car was replacing those connectors with the ones that are much easier to get on and off:

My first stop with the car would be changing or at least cleaning the plugs and doing the HT leads. This has solved 90% of the misfire problems I have ever had with any car I have ever owned.

haha, yeah I found the newspaper... sprayed over it, be alright.
I have eliminated the sensors (unplugging and running), most of them are new anyway. New dizzy, rotor arm and leads within the last 4 years, so I just took them off gave the contacts a good clean. The main lead to the coil pack was a bit nasty but i'm guessing you cant just replace the lead? (It runs better in the damp so am I right to assume its electrical)
Im going to strip the intake system and plenum off this weekend to do an engine bay clean so will give the throttle bodies and afm the once over.
What's the best way to balance the throttles? Are we talking millimetres or wont it make a huge difference?
Oh and how hard is it to replace the plugs, how much will I have to strip out to reach them? Heard its a naff job - although Jeremy did give me the tool.
and another thing.... Under sealing. Recommended?

Yeah pop the dizzy off, have a look at the contacts. I bet there corroded. I've had this on mine. Replaced dizzy and rotary arm . Sorted |

It could be the throttle position switch- try just disconnecting it to see if it makes any difference first. If not that possibly lambda particularly if when cold or air flow meter gremlin.

Hello all!
So i am the proud owner of Jeremy's 33.
Been a couple of days and loving the car.
I do however seem to have a dreadful misfire. The car runs on three and sometimes even two cylinders when between 1K and 2.5K. Worse when applying the throttle gently.
I found that the left plastic throttle linkage was broken and loose so the right would open about 5mm before opening the left. Fixed that but i feel it could be something to do with the throttle balance?
Did you ever have any luck resolving the misfire Jeremy?
