Post subject: Shard of Agony & Duriel: How to Use the Summoning
To use the Shard of Agony and summon Duriel correctly in Diablo 4, players must follow precise steps involving specific items, locations, and preparation to ensure a successful boss encounter.
Gather the necessary summoning materials: 2 Shards of Agony and 2 Mucus-Slicked Eggs. Shards of Agony are obtained by defeating Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, in the Hall of the Penitent, which requires using 5 Living Steel to summon him. Mucus-Slicked Eggs come from defeating Varshan beneath the Tree of Whispers dungeon, an equally challenging boss. Both Grigoire and Varshan must be defeated on World Tier 4 difficulty for these items to drop reliably.
Once the materials are secured, travel to the Gaping Crevasse dungeon located in Kehjistan, near the southern edge of the map. Inside, locate the Pestilent Altar at the dungeon’s end. Interact with the altar and place the 2 Shards of Agony and 2 Mucus-Slicked Eggs into it. This action will summon Duriel, King of Maggots, for battle.
Duriel’s fight is demanding, with heavy poison-themed attacks such as poison pools, maggot summons, and burrowing that causes adds to emerge. Equipping gear with high poison resistance is critical, along with using poison resistance potions. If a player dies, they can re-enter the fight without needing to resummon Duriel, but the boss will regain full health, making it essential to avoid deaths or have allies assist.
Coordinating who places summoning materials and managing stamina and positioning can make the fight smoother. Efficiently clearing the waves of enemies before Duriel reaches the altar is important to conserve resources. Summoning Duriel is resource-intensive, so always ensure you have stocked enough Shards of Agony and Mucus-Slicked Eggs before initiating the ritual.
Collect 2 Shards of Agony by defeating Grigoire in the Hall of the Penitent (using 5 Living Steel to summon him).
Collect 2 Mucus-Slicked Eggs by defeating Varshan near Tree of Whispers.
Travel to the Gaping Crevasse dungeon in Kehjistan and find the Pestilent Altar.
Place the required items on the altar to summon Duriel.
Prepare thoroughly with poison-resistant gear and potions for the tough fight.
Utilize group coordination if possible for smoother kills.
Remember, dying in the fight lets you re-enter without resummoning, but Duriel heals to full.
Following these steps ensures players can use the Shard of Agony as a summoning key effectively, unlocking Duriel's lair and the chance at powerful rewards in Diablo 4.
