Checked the plug order this morning and what do you know, I got it wrong. I even printed the page from the manual with the diagram of the order and still got it wrong.

Thanks stedee,

Its a 1.5 so the marks are the end of the cams like in the second photo. I was pretty sure I had it right but now i'm certain.

Ok, I've got the heads back on but I'm not sure on the timing. The workshop manual isn't very clear(or I'm a bit thick)

Thanks for all your help guys.

I got prices for skimming and presure testing, $205australian, and $95 for a full gasket kit.

If it had overheated and then blown I'd get them skimmed but it never overheated, don't think the temp gague went over 80 so would the heads have warped? Does the engine need to overheat for the heads ...

the faces of the heads still have a bit of gasket stuck to them, but from what i can see there is no pitting or corrosion.
