It was the 1/2" M12 spline if I remember correctly. |

Thanks, I was thinking of putting it all back together, minus the engine stabiliser, so I can still tighten up the head bolts.
With the belts on I guess it will be ok to tighten the cam pulleys with the car in gear. _________________ x2 33 16v

Borrowing a 3/8 torque wrench.
When the engine is in TDC no4 cylinder it is flush with the block but the inlet valves are open slightly. Is this correct _________________ x2 33 16v

Hi
Presume they mean the 3 angle seats.
Not sure about the valve being open. Possible as that is the end of the exhaust stroke, hence possible for some overlap.
All the best

I looked at my old valves and there was no sign of 3 angles??? all the valves were ground in and only had 1 angle?
I hope i have the correct cylinder number, it is the front passenger side, as the engine turns clockwise the valves open and i assume the piston is on the way inwards. Its just that the piston is flush with the block and the valves are opening and look as it there going to touch the top of the piston. _________________ x2 33 16v

keith, it was clyinder no2 at the front.
Update,
I forgot to mention that I put the belts on Tuesday,
Minus 1 tension spring as I left it at my friends garage,
I didn’t torque anything up.
Also did the throttle bodies
Injectors and rail
Some coolant hoses
And removed the radiator for easier access.
I torqued up the head today
Torqued up the cam shells
Torqued up the cam pulleys, I used the M12 spline to hold the pulleys in place, thanks Lee.
Put the cam cover back on
I had to take off the belt as I couldn’t get the spring for the tensioner on, due to not having he correct tools.
What a P.I.T.A getting the belt back on, I also hate aluminium Bobbber!! One of the bolts that holds on the oil return, our flexi friend, didn’t feel like it was biting up. So I swapped it with the other one, which is slightly longer, thinking it would just poke through the other side.
Oh no! It stripped the thread, so i will get a longer bolt tomorrow and put a nut on the end.
All that’s left is,
oil and filter
Manifold, 1 stud needs to be screwed back into the head
Engine stabiliser
Power steering belt
Alternator belt
Throttle linkage and cable
2 HT leads
Electrics
Plenum chamber
I have to get a passenger side cam cover and 3 bolts
Think I could have had it done today if not for the little problems, just ran out of light. _________________ x2 33 16v

Update,
Used a thread cleaner and used the long bolt, all is now ok
Had fun putting in the lower passenger side, rear metal cam cover bolt. Thread cleaner to the rescue again
All that’s left is,
coolant
radiator and fan
oil and filter
Manifold, 1 stud needs to be screwed back into the head, could not get the nut off, so will replace.
Throttle cable
No box of bits left, just 1 bolt down, the cam cover one that snapped, plus the other 2 i left off from last time i removed the covers. _________________ x2 33 16v

The saga finally somes to an end. No more stories from me.
Ok, one.
Finished car off today, left the cat not attached to the manifold, as I didn’t want any crud blocking it up, removed the white coil lead, so it wouldn’t fire. Turned her over a few times and re checked oil levels.
connected the white wire again and started her up, she ran for 5 secs then stalled, tried again, Bang, a miss fire, knew what I had done and reversed no 2 and 4 ht lead. Ran again but very noisey.
I was warned that the hydraulic tappets would be noisy for a bit, but it sounded too loud for that and I thought id bent a valve along the way. I was really sad and thought, I have to do all this again, nooooo.
Let her run for a while and then connected the cat to the manifold and then the wire telling the ecu there is a cat.
Checked oil again and ran until the fan came on, car was hunting, very rough and very noisy. Eventually she began to sing, all be it very quietly
Yeah!!!
Let her cool down, check coolant and then took her for a drive. Have done a few miles and will run her in for the next month as I hardly use my car.

Jees BigAl, WELL DONE, it’s great to hear she’s back running again.
I took the wuss approach to sorting out by broken cambelt and bought a 33 engine off Paul on Saturday (thanks Paul ). I’m still gonna change the cambelt and probably water pump on it though so I’ve got that fun to come, but at least I don’t have bent valves etc to contend with.
If I were you I’d be settling down with one giant bottle of JD right now!! _________________ Alfasud 105Ti Green Cloverleaf

Thanks suds, mush appreciated, make sure you do your pulley bearings as well.
Ha, you big woos, it wasn’t that bad as iv done loads of 8v heads before, this was my first 16v.
Only took so long as I don’t have a garage.
I have no time to drink that giant bottle of JD as there is so much else to do to it, have you seen my other posts? Blooming door, light connection on loom ect ect.
Owning one of these little beasts sure does keep you busy. _________________ x2 33 16v

Hey BigAl, just seen you're other posts - That car is keeping you busy. Haven't been on the forum much as work has been uber busy but will hopefully be around a bit more from now.
I'll do the pulley bearings as well then when I'm doing the cambelts.
