Hi all
I posted this yesterday on the Australia NZ forum and realised that it would be better placed here.

1. Should the brake warning light (!) illuminate when I first switch the ignition on as per the Ignition warning light and all of the other warning lights?

2. The orange wire attached to the brake fluid level sensor at the hydraulic tank seems to be connected to earth. I would have expected this to have 12V +ve on. Does anybody have any clues as to what may be going on? Of course I may have missed something that is fundamental or bleeding obvious so please do not hesitate to guide me.

Your help will be appreciated as I have to get a road worthy certificate for this car and this problem is an irritation.

Thanks
Vecchio Alfisti

Yes,when you first switch on ignition the brake warning light along with battery, oil pressure (and handbrake) lights and the lights behind the temp and fuel gauges should come on for a bit and then go out, to let you know that they are working. Worry if it stays on. To check if the brake fluid level sensor is working, unscrew the sensor and lift it out of the fluid and the warning light should come on (if the ignition is on) Smile

On my S2, it says that you can push down on the blue button ontop of the brake fluid reservoir to test the level warning light. I didn't find that much use because I couldn't press the button and look at the dashboard at the same time. Wink

Someone who had the car before me had removed the bulb for the brake warning light, presumably to hide a fault or remove the distraction. It's quite easy to remove the gauge cluster to inspect the bulbs.

Thank you Paul and Ben for your helpful answers. I am still left with the problem of the orange wire connected to earth.

I am having difficulty getting behind the instrument cluster to see if there is even a bulb there.
