Help - have tried various dealers etc. but only have this part at extremely high price. Anyone know anywhere I might get lucky??

Is your cat knackered internally, or is it just the pipe join with the back box that has rotted? If it is the latter you may be able to graft on a new tail pipe with a sleeve and clamps, or welding. I did this before getting very lucky and finding an almost new genuine cat on Ebay last year.

Unfortunately, most original cats from 93-94 will be in poor shape, even if you can find one.

I believe a company called Europa car parts did a universal in line cat, which may be a cheapish option. You would have to cut and shut this into new pipe work.

The cat is OK, just the pipe weld where the bracket for the rubber band hooks onto the underside near the door. Shame I have to replace as the sound is superb but MOT now overdue, so really need to get it sorted.

That's the price I have been quoted, so I think I will take your advice and attempt a repair. Only problem I could foresee is that the bracket bit is actually missing so will have to try and fashion something.
