He everyone,
I bought a permanent 4 this weekend. After owning an 1.7IE I decided it was time for a 16v. But then I saw a permanent 4 16 v on the internet.
It is a pretty decent car, but There are a few problems.
For one I have al leakage at the gasfillerpipe ( probably some of the rubber linkages in between the fillercap and the tank is really dried out or something like that)
Next I have to weld a little plate in the floor, because of rust. But nothing to serious.
But the last problem I have is concerning the rear silencer. It is in pretty bad condition(so I have to replace it anyway), but I noticed it runs different to a normal 16v silencer. This is because it has to clear the rear axle. I noticed that the pipe that runs over the axle, is not round anymore (oval, almost flat.). It looks like the axle slammed into it, but this isn't possible, because it is still at the original P4 riding height.
Does anybody know if this is normal for a P4,and will this effect the efficiency of my engine a lot..?
Because of the fact that a P4 is not really common in the Netherlands, I was wondering if anyone had a good idea of how to make a normal 16v work under a p4 ( for instance bending the pipes yourself)
Anyne any ideas? |

I have a 33 SW 1.7IE 4x4 and my pipe over the rear axle was also pretty flat. I think it is designed that way.
There are several dealers that sells silencers and pipes to the 33, also for the different 4x4-models. Take a look at this link, which is to a dealer in Norway. It shows a drawing of a 4x4-silencer kit:

But my local garage welded a new pipe for my car from standard parts, it was cheaper than buying a complete set. |

Hi,
I had the same petrol leak problem on a recent P4. Basically the mud had got around the back of the filler pipe under the wing and when filling the car the petrol would leave a patch of fuel on the forecourt. So, I managed to put a good one off a scrap P4, clean it up and paint it. It was fitted to the car and problem solved. The old one was just perforated with rust and was only good for the bin - the rest of the car was fine! _________________ The faster the better. |

Hi flat pipe over rear axle is normal.
You can bend it youself if you have bending tools, using original pipe as template and then you have to flaten it also because if you dont it will touch chasis when car is fill up with people _________________ Tino Vatavuk

thanks everyone,
That makes it a lot easier for me.. I will remove the rear silencer then ( after the flattened part of pipe... and weld a new silencer on that piece of pipe..!! Because only the silencer is rotten..!
I Am getting my Cam belts done as we speak. So I asked the people at the garage to take a quick look at the gas pipe. I told them if it wasn't to much work they could fix it, otherwise I would do it myself. Only trouble is, as I already mentioned before, there aren't that much P4's in Holland around. SO this will maybe take a little more work then usual..
I'll keep you informed!
And thanks for the link, I will take a look around..!! |
