Hello All,

have been distressed to find water gathering in my boot recently... the headlining also seems to be getting wet in the back left corner . I've looked at all the guttering, window seals, boot seals etc, but can't find any blockages or obvious places where the water is getting in.
Does any one have any experience of this, and/or a solution?
Any ideaas would be much appreciated!

All The Best,

Joel

Hi,

Any possibility that the rear wiper sprinkler hose is cracked or out of position and windshield fluid makes this mess?

Simple to check... just operate the wiper and see if water spray comes out of the sprinkler.

Regards,

No rear wiper or washer?
That's two possible sources of leaks eliminated. Wink
Other possible ones are the bottom corners of the rear window. There were originally drain holes here to drain away water which got under the window seal, but rust starts from around the holes and water drips through.

Hi,
Does it have a sunroof?
The drain hoses go out through the rear....maybe one has perished/ come off and is leaking?

no sunroof either... very basic model. no central locking either. there is far less to go wrong on this one

The drain holes in the rear windows sounds possible, but it's the way the headlining is getting wet that disturbs me most! Crying or Very sad

could water come through the guttering on the roof if the trim is damaged?

Unlikely, because that would almost require the water to drain uphill through the rivet holes on the underside of the guttering.
Water used to get in around my radio aerial - does your 33 have one of those? Wink

What about the rubber seal around the rear window? IT HAS ONE OF THOSE YEAH? Laughing

Seriously though.... wait for a dry day - and pour water over small sections of the car at different times, and check for water ingress.

And I simpathise Joel - water leaking problems are some of the easiest to fix - but the most difficult to spot and diagnose correctly.

Good Luck! Bob

Yes Bob,

it does have a seal on the boot glass!... i have tried dusting the inside of this with talc and then pouring water over from outside. No obvious ingress.
I have also just tried the rerar lights, as Dave suggested (thanks). There is a bit of decay around the right light cluster, and it does look like water has been coming in this way for a while Shocked . But it still doesn't explain the headlining getting wet on the other side!
The discolouration of said headlining is breaking my heart! Crying or Very sad
I'm probly gonna strip the whole boot down at the weekend and try again...

If there was water in the boot, sunny times could cause condensation to occur which could dampen the affected headlining areas ?? Question Confused Rolling Eyes
