They do help to break up the red a bit. I'm not a fan of body-colouring absolutely everything - a bit of black or silver back on your grille might look good.
I wish I could justify rebuilding and tidying up my engine though - and I'd love to have air filters like that! I know how great they sound. Help to drown out worn camshaft noises too... Rolling Eyes

yeh the previous owner painted the grill mesh red, im going to put some mesh in the rest of the holes in the bumper. not sure whether to leave the mesh silver and paint the grill mesh silver or paint the mesh black aswell as the grill mesh.
Any thoughts....?

Put the bumper mesh in unpainted first and see how you like it.. You can always paint it black later if it looks too bright.

I'd return the shield surround to silver (you can't try to hide the shield by painting it red, that's like taking the badge off!), and in that case the shield mesh would probably look best black.

You've got crimson/red Alfa writing, plug leads, carby throttle linkage bar and air horns, and everything else is black or chrome. No problems there.
But the radiator fan and the alternator are just standard items and aren't performance-related anyway, so they don't need emphasising. Especially they don't need to be painted yet another colour all of their own.
I reckon put the fan surround back to black, and if you can get the paint off the alternator or paint it a convincing silver, do that. If you painted some parts of it silver and some parts black, it might look better (same as if your grille weren't entirely red). But any silver is bound to be made to look dull grey compared to your chrome air cleaners!
