Bobbber,

As you say on your website- label everything. Also in this day and age of camera phones- take lots of pictures- it's amazing what isn't so obvious putting it back together!

If you haven't disconnected the driveshafts at the gbox yet- get and use an allen-socket that you can drive with a 1/2inch ratchet- saves ages Wink

You need to get the front of the car very high up to pull the engine/box out the front. May help to remove the bumper.

When you put the lump back in i'd recommend keeping all the suspension bolts loose till everything including the driveshafts are connected.

It's worth making a trolley to dump the engine gbox onto- i used a mechanics trolley.

Oh and borrow as many trolley jacks as you can.

thanks john,

I have a trolley which I used to move a PIANO, which should be strong enough!

I was going to drop it using a crane, would you prefer a jack?

Hi,

I think a crane will make it easier.

The 2 times i have had the 33 lump out, i had the car up at about 45 degrees at the front, and used jacks to lower the engine onto the trolley.

When i had my sud lump out, i hired a crane.

Are your lifting hooks still on the throttle bodies? Alot of the time they get taken off and thrown away. I have a pair in the shed somewhere, which you can borrow (if you want to pay postage) if yours are missing.

If you want to keep your wings now for your P4 project, that is fine with me.

I took my engine out from above. Not too bad a task and it saved time not having to undo suspension bits and pieces. Just a thought......

When you say craned........... I kind of used rope, a sturdy wooden beam and the help of my dad to lift the bugger out!!

Actually it was quite easy. I removed the gearbox from underneath first and then removed all the ancillaries down to the bare block. Then i turned the engine so that the crank pulley was facing skywards and lashed it to a piece of wood and heaved it out. Have a few Weetabix before hand though Wink

It's the sense of the unknown that puts people off...... now every 33 owner, sorry, all 6 33 owners will be taking their engines out thanks to you!

Bobbber- Ok maybe more like 35 degrees. It was as high as i could get it using tall quality axle stands, standing on big clumps of wood like sleepers. The stands had clumps of wood on top as well that my Dad carved to fit the jacking points- it was bloody high!

Still had to take the bumper off too. I think the gearlever was the worst thing for fouling.

If your steering rack is iffy, take it off with the engine out.

Are you using a replacement engine? Are you going to give it the stedee polish up??

I'll have a quick look over this engine once out... but I think I'll end up replacing it with another half-decent one.

I'll attempt a reasonable standard of restoration... Steve's was, in my opinion, exceptional.

Who bought it anyway??? Ian?
