Hi
It isn't that difficult, just takes time.
The only real problem is getting the car high enough with normal tools to slide the engine out from under the front of the car.
All the best

Hi
I used the engine hoist to lower the engine, but then needed to get the car higher to slide the engine out under the front. I landed up buying a rather better jack. Not sure what there is on the front of the car with the engine out that I would like to lift the car by. Only really thing that is possible is the front cross member but to get the engine out you have to remove that
All the best

Keith - in particular - an excellent hooking point is the slotted bolt hole of the top engine mount. The bolt itself can be inserted for the lifting cable/chain. If the panel that is welded to the bulkhead is solid, then it will take the weight of the body (since this is a fulcrum where both engine and body torque meet).
Ultimately, the safest and least stressful lifting method (for the car!) is to use a high-lift jack and taller stands (if no other lifting equipment is available). _________________ Chris Notsis |

Yep, thats what I did. Only down side is high lift jacks cost ALOT more that normal trolley jacks

When doing my 8V-16V engine swap all we used were two trolley jacks, two axle stands and a small bottle jack. The axle stands hold the front of the car high off the ground. Lower the engine attached to the gearbox with the two trolley jacks supporting the heads. If they don't reach high enough, lower the gearbox slightly first and support with the bottle jack on lowest setting. Then once the bellhousing bolts are removed, Slide the engine off the GB with trolleys under the heads equalising the pressure, then lower jacks as far as possible and slide engine out!
I think that's how it worked for us anyway... There's probably an easier way. _________________ Hugh B

Forgive me but I've never understood the whole Nova thing. There are so many driving about round here and they just don't inspire me. Maybe I'm just missing something...
Give me Cuore Sportivo any day. Sod 80's digital dashes and turbocharged GM lumps of pig iron Burgo - get your 33 running properly and tune it, you'll see what I'm talking about, I hope! |

I just spat my coffee out laughing, nice one Max, u sure ain't mad , just funny and truthful (well to some extent Dicks have a use).
Quote from "Burgo" - 'but there not the best lookin cars in the world'
Well maybe not but compared to a Nova!!, Burgo I don't think partially sighted people should be driving. |

at the end of the day, no matter how hard u look at things, alfa's are just yet another piss poor attempt by the italians at engineering.
italian shite is just not reliable, good luck with the nova!! |

Uh-oh... I think some others from the Nova forum have illegally occupied the thread...
Burgo - no I'm not having a go at you. Just those loons who think kiddy insults get them any respekt with people here. I admire the desire to create something new. But for me starting with a Nova seems just a bit too easy. But that's just me, every man to his own - your Nova will probably be running longer than my 33 - good luck with the projects and keep us informed how they get on!
Here's a question though - instead of ripping a Calibra engine out and sticking it in a shoebox - erm I mean Nova (only joking!) - why not just buy the Calibra? They're gorgeous cars and will pull better. Both in terms of acceleration and in terms of women. _________________ Hugh B
