Hi,
I have a problem with the boot not opening on a '91 16v.
The boot release works OK when the the lever is pulled, but the boot doesn't pop up. Opening the boot is now a 2-person operation: one person to pull the release lever and the other person to lift the boot. Any ideas?
Thank you. |

Hi,
Once lifted up does the boot stay open If not, replace the gas struts.
If it just won't pop open but will stay up, From memory the rubber seal around the boot needs replacing. _________________ Scott Sander

Hi
Yes, think it is the seals. As a short term solution pull the boot release and then wrap the seatbelt around the release handle to hold it up. This will stop the boot relocking before you walk around to the back of the car.
Remember to upwrap the seatbelt before you close the boot or try and drive off.
All the best

Think scott might have picked it my 91 33 has the same prob i just put the key under the handle with key facing down so it doesnt slip of the carpet and that works alright infact Ive been doing it so long I forgot about it being a problem until I just read this and it reminded me about it. (fix it later on) Driving my alfa is extacy when every thing works its a fantacy. |

Hi,
Many thanks for the help.
The boot stays up when opened, so hopefully the struts are OK. I guess this leaves the rubber seal and the cable grip as possible problems.
The seatbelt idea is a cunning plan - I have been propping open the latch with the key until know - not at all reliable.
thanks, Robert |
