I’ve been trying to sell my P4 for a while now, gradually reducing the price and now I’m wondering what the bottom price level is. I don’t want to sell it for less than I could get selling the bits of it individually (e.g. Recaro seats, alloys, 16v engine, 4wd transmission) – so I guess what I’m asking is does anyone know what the sum of the value of a P4 in bits is in the UK?
Just in case you’re wondering, I don’t really want to break it…it’s got a long MoT, is still taxed and goes well, in fact I might even consider the option of selling the 146ti that has replaced it if that was easier to sell (V reg, 87,000, probably around £3800), though I’ve not really thought that through yet. _________________ Johne.

Trying to sell the bit's will be even harder.
I'd keep it if I were you as it really has no intrinsic value. Keep it as a summer car with low milage classic insurance and just keep trying to sell it (but don't hold your breath).
The engine is worth about £150 tops, transmision ?? but these bits only hold the value if seen working, alloys £50, seats £50-100 your talking £400 MAXIMUM if breaking and is it worth the hasstle. |

Selling any Alfa depends on 3 things - the supply/demand thingy, how good is the car and how willing is the buyer to part with the cash.
A P4 (I'd like one, honest!) seems to be worth anything between £1000 and £2000, I've recently seen ads for one at £1100 and another 1991 with 56k for £1450.
Don't forget though, the condition of your Alfa is vital, but your want to sell it at the value of the parts is unrealistic, unless you are really handy with spanners - in which case get spannering - are you going to sell me your engine? |

Yeah, the problem with the supply demand thingy is that people who don't know/like alfa 33s don't want one and those who do like them read threads like this one and know that they've just got to bide their time
If I did break it I'd probably want to have enquiries for a reasonable number of components, 'cos I'd rather have a complete car sitting on my front garden than one without (say) an engine - at least at the moment I can move it around to keep most of the lawn growing and drive it to work occasionally to keep everything working. Also, it's easier to show that the gearbox works well if the car's still got wheels
About the 'classic' (for want of a better term) insurance/low usage option: I was quoted £180ish by the AROC recommended insurer for 3000miles pa. This seems a bit high considering my Triumph Stag costs £105 for unlimited miles pa and the agreed value is about 5x the 33. Has anyone else gone down this route and found a cheaper quote? _________________ Johne.

I think one of the problems is that it's not an "ordinary" car so the market is restricted and you may have to wait for the right buyer, so it's not necessarily a simple case of it being over-priced - i.e. the supply and demand thingy.
It seems to me people don't know how to price such cars anyway. We saw our P4 for sale at NAD where there were a couple of others both P4 and normal 16v advertised at double the price or more, but with higher mileage and patches of rust. Ours was £600 for example - it's not mint, but is in good shape with zero rust on 82k miles.
I don't think I could break up a perfectly good Alfa |

Adam H quote 'A P4 (I'd like one, honest!) seems to be worth anything between £1000 and £2000, I've recently seen ads for one at £1100 and another 1991 with 56k for £1450. '
For over a Grand you are talking absolute A1 condition with £1500 the MAX. Unfortunately there is no way in the world any standard 33 is worth 2K, this is complete dream land.
johne I'd personally rent a lock-up and keep it as they are very nice cars but have NO cash value. They may eventually become a classic but as the 'classic' market is in free-fall anyway don't look on it as an investment.
What about a roll cage etc for track days/hill climbs/racing/etc. |

Yes Gary, the thought of keeping it in a lock up had crossed my mind, or maybe putting a door in the back of my garage so I could drive it in to the back garden and put it under one of those tent-like covers - but I'd rather rebuild my Stag than the garage!
Anyone know of any (cheap) storage space in mid-Essex? _________________ Johne.

Hi
My better halfs Maserati is insured on a Classic policy. That is with Aon. Might be worth a try. They will insure cars as classic once they are over 10 years old.
All the best
