Hi chaps.
In the coming spring months when the weather warms up a bit I'm going to remove the front wings from the 33 and get in behind and treat any rust that might be forming (after 18 years there must be some). My question is how easy do the wings come off? Are they simply bolted on or are they held on with a combination of bolts/ mastic glue type stuff?
Cheers. |

Shouldn't be that bad Lee. The plastic mudguard things do a pretty good job. Took them out recently for a clean up behind and to clear the scuttle drains etc and everything (that I could see ) was as good as gold.
I remember taking the wings off my sprint when they were rusting around the repeater lights. With no mudguards the shite just lodged between the A pillars and the wings rotting them both. Each A pillar needed about 3 plates welding in- at the time the car was a mere 6 +1/2 years old

If they've never been taken off there will be some kind of 'sealant stuff'(?) in places, but they should still come off pretty easy except that sometimes the captive nuts sometimes break free on the inside and a couple can be a bugger to get to. 13mm bolts along the top, one at the bottom, under the sill guard? and one at the back of the wing in the wheel arch. I think there a couple of attachments to the spoiler aswell? _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Paul has taken the words right out of my mouth Lee, except the bolts are 10mm, not 13mm. _________________ 155 sportpack

Hi,
Replace the sealant afterwards with U-Pol Tigerseal. About £10 a cartridge, and it doesn't keep but it's good stuff
