When I tried to get the clip and the star washer on together they just wouldn't both fit.
I have a spare linkage and I'm going to do the bolt modification. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Lee (an any others who've done it) how do you ensure the bolt stays in. Do you just use loctite? I'm considering getting the bolt head drilled so I can wire it. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Yeah, I used loctite and as long a bolt as I could tap into it. Did it about 4 years ago now so you should be ok with just this but your idea can't hurt.......The more the better!! |

Thanks Lee, yes keen for it to not happen again, I was in a very narrow country lane only one car wide. Fortunately I was able to get third and I limped home in that. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

I've been there twice, I keep one spare in the car all the time, last time when I tried to get the kit the rubber washer was not available.
I am waiting on a gear linkage bar and I think I will get my engineer guy to mod it too _________________ x2 33 16v

I've just ordered some rubber washers from ebay. I had to buy about a zillion so if anyone wants to pm me their address I'm happy to put a handful in the post to you.
I do carry spare clips but wouldn't have much fancied doing it with the onboard jack while traffic built up in the lane in both directions. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Last time it happened to me I just pulled away from a set of lights, it took me 20 mins to find it and I parked the car on the kerb and managed to crawl underneath and get it on.
I was covered in grease, it was summer and I did it with my top off, I went in the pub to clean off . _________________ x2 33 16v

The ones I've ordered are 2mm thick possibly a little thicker than standard I suspect.
I've ordered 5mm internal diameter as that's the size of bolt I've gone for. I think the standard is 6mm but I suspect you could either stretch a 5mm over or open it out a bit with a knife or punch. I've gone for a 22mm outer diameter which should pretty much cover the whole of the bottom of the 'socket'. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

Well it happened to me again today.
I was parking at work and reversing into a space and the gearstick went all loose, I had enough momentum to park.
I got out and found the clip and metal washer. I didn’t have enough time to do it then.
After work I did my 30 min run on the treadmill and went to fix it still in my shorts and vest top, I borrowed some overhauls, got to the car and the heavens opened up!
The thing that took the longest was getting that stupid scissor jack up enough with the wheel brace. You have to turn it 1/2 way, take it of, put it on again a ridiculous amount of times. Needless to say I got soaked to the bone.
I went to the swimming changing area and used the little spin dryer for swimming shorts, great idea. I did all but my socks, I forgot.
I ran back to the car and got wet again and drove to a garage and changed into my dry clothes. I had an audience, a Porche driver and his passenger. Luckily for them I dropped my clean dry pants in a puddle, so I had to drive with wet pants lol. _________________ x2 33 16v

Bad luck Al, I've now done the bolt conversion.
Interestingly the slot that receives the clip on mine was worn so instead of having nice square sides they were angled in places, this will not have been helping the clip to stay in. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |

I thought it was a funny story to share, you have to be a fan of these cars, they test us every now and then.
I still haven't got around to doing any mods and now that I will be fitting the sud 1.5 and or 1.3 box they use a different connector _________________ x2 33 16v

Wrong thread Al but very interesting. I don't have Skype but do you fancy calling them and asking how much for a dozen sent to the UK, I'm sure we could all do with one or two in our spares boxes. _________________ '93 Black 33 1.7 16v |
