Hi to all

I was thinking about to get photos included in discussions of the forum..

I know..it is already possible put photos on easy external services
and link the photos..but this method is not safe for photos
in old discussions..photos can disappear for many reasons
and part of the discussion get lost..

I know also that hoste the alfa-pages site with also photos inside
will need more Kb space, so probably will be a little more expensive..

But I was thinking it will be very nice..may be also limiting
the included photos to 800X600 to save some space
(+ external linking still possible for bigger photos)

The usability/utility of the site (that are already
very high..thanks and very much thanks to administrators)
and his popularity probably will increase
(may be some 'adds' in the home with increased traffic
could pay the cost of the extra space required?).

Any program in that sense? Very Happy

I find it very annoying when looking at old threads, not just on this web site, that the poster has removed their pics, I wish users would leave the pics available, I have Smile

Yes..
and maybe the photos are removed simply because
at one point for many reasons the external service that hoste
them is expiring and it will need too much time for the poster
to make the actions needed for assure photos stay longer available,
not because the poster really want remove them..

Instead if one put the photos directly on the forum,
in the future time and actions will be necessary only to
put off the photos; if the poster doesn't do nothing,
until the original discussion is available on the forum,
also the photos are..'Very Happy'

Hi

I did do some work on a forum for having hosted photos. Actually not that difficult to do.

I will have a play when I get a chance.

All the best

Keith

Ok, thanks, I'll hope you'll get a chance Very Happy

Ps.: my little opinion
if it will be possible to host photos on the forum
I think it will be a real successful feature,
but to permit this feature to function well,
it will be fundamental put a low limit at the "weight"
of every photo hosted (and ii will remain no limit
for external hosted photos, every one could choice)
to avoid future problem with storage space/cost..
in practice every user will have to resize photos before
post them, not really a problem (or use a tool of the forum
to resize photos during upload, some forum have tricks like this)..

I see one good italian alfa forum that periodically have
problem with the storage space because in the years
users increase (this is good) and post many huge photos
(this is a little problem with scaling the storage space).

A trivial example of weight limits for photos
I was just doing about another forum:

- you know simple 8 Mpixel photocamera
shots 3264x2448 pixel photos, at jpeg
medium quality each ' weights' 2,63 MB..

- same photo resized to 1200X900 pixel
same jpeg quality is 432 KB

- at 1024X768 pixel is 340 KB

A possible safe limit to photo's weight posted
on a forum (resized from user or from
an automatic program on the forum)
could be around 450 KB ??.. to avoid this
(wonderfull) feature could became critical
in the future for shortage/cost of storage space
(and keep it as simple and less time consuming
as possible for forum administrators? )

Hi

It is not difficult to resize uploaded images, or adjust the quality to reduce the file size. That is the easy bit!

All the best

Hi

Should also point out that web space is not really an issue. It is meant to be unlimited, although only within reason I suspect. But I have a lot of very large photos uploaded on another site hosted on the same web space.

All the best

Keith
