Pilot VAF to MAF converter allows you to convert an existing Volume Air Flow Meter to a Mass Airflow Meter.
I have translate the software and installation manual to english, because a lot of english users ask for it on my email, also there is a hardware difference between russian and english versions- english version has an onboard usb interface and other connectors.
More details you can find here:
http://max.pilotpowersupply.com/2011/06/30/pilot_vaf_to_maf_coverter_0-5v_version/
The brains of the conversion is a RISC microcontroller clocked at 12.8-MHz. This device reads the MAF sensor and calculates the equivalent volume of air, scaled to the VAF sensor’s characteristic from a special table of conversion. This calculated volume is then used to create a voltage signal which is sent to the PCM. The system is designed such that the PCM thinks the airflow is being measured by a VAF, necessitating no changes be made to the PCM itself.
The converter supports two operating modes:
1)Simple mode for VAF meters with reference voltage in range of 0-5V
2)Universal mode for VAF meters with reference voltage in range of 0-12V on LE-jetronic and other old style engine management systems.
Also this version of the converter has an additional precision DAC for best perfomance.
The converter has an upgradable firmware future, so if we’ll add some new features to software or firmware you can download and make upgrade for free very easy.
also you can find a lot of installation examples on russian http://forum.pilotpowersupply.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15
If someone interesting in it and have any questions - let me know
Thanks |

I have many questions, none of which I dare to ask on a public forum! I have no idea what this is, why I would need it, or what it does
If anyone would like to educate a fool I'm all ears |

Oh, ok. If it comes with a wiring diagram I'm in |

Hi, I think MAF (Mass Air Flow meter, instead of the old
semi-mechanical type bosh VAF, Volume Air Flow meter)
can give also a little power increase (little more torque at every rpm),
and fuel economy, because it reduce air induction power loses..
Thinking about this:
- alfa 33 1.3 twin carbs: 90cv
- alfa 33 1.3 i.e. with marelli IAW lost spark ignition, without bosh VAF,
with the only penalty of a catalytic converter: 88 cv
it is almost the same power (catalytic converter is about -3cv)
- alfa 33 1.5 twin cabs: 105 cv
- alfa 33 1.5 i.e. with catalytic converter and bosh VAF: 97cv
some power missing in the i.e with VAF..
(and I think the missing is not due to gas emissions limitations,
we are talking about simply euro-1 cars..)
- alfa 33 1.7 8v twin carbs: 114 cv
- alfa 33 1.7 8v i.e. with catalytic converter and bosh VAF: 105cv
some power missing in the i.e with VAF..
We need a pioneer that test and perfect it on a 33..
reading instruction on the "Pilot" english site it seems a not so
fast and easy job when done on a particular car for the first time,
starting from choosing a correct MAF and calibrate it on the 33.. _________________ Alfa 33 |

It was a common conversion on the bmw's that use the same motronics ML4.1 system, I think a guy RR before and after and found no difference _________________ x2 33 16v
