Hi there.

I'm getting fed up of the Alfa badges going discoloured/ laquer peeling on the bus. I bought two new ones probably only two years ago and they've gone crap also so what's your opinion of this.......(did it to an old badge as a test). Not sold on it myself yet but would like some feedback to help me in my decision!

What did you do to it Lee?

They are a pain the way they fade. I've gone to the sadville extreme of keeping duff badges on the car incase it's ever sunny or some toe-rag steels them, and popping on my 2 best ones for special occassions like SAD etc- I'll be lining up the tyres next- people really do this- jack up the car and rotate the wheels....

Cheers Iain. It's starting to grow on me.

John, Left it soaking in cellulose thinners for a couple of days then wiped off all the laquer and that's what you're left with. Good idea about keeping two good ones for special occasions.

Strange, the badges on all ours still look perfect, even those on the Sprint, which was parked in the sun in Mallorca for 10 years.

I have noticed very faded badges on a couple of newer Alfas locally (I think maybe 156's), and thought the newer badges must be poorer quality.

I can see the rear badge on the Trofeo is losing some colour in very small spots next to the gold ring, as if moisture is creeping in, although I had assumed the fading was due to sunlight.

The front one does not show any of this, but seems to be sealed between the gold ring and the coloured part, whereas on the rear one I can get the tip of my fingernail into the gap, which has whitish material in it - maybe corrosion, or deteriorated sealer?

Maybe cleaning the groove and putting a touch of clear varnish in it would protect the colour.
