Hey all,

I have finally succeeded in finding a set of rims for my Sud. Turns out an Italian maker, MAK have 3 styles that will suit the car, I'm tossing up between the Fiorano or the Sting.

Let me know what ya think style wise!! Tyres will be 205/45/ZR16

Anyway, what I want to know is, as these rims will be the correct offset and stud pattern, can 16x7 inch rims be fitted to the Sud without fouling anthing, like the trailing arms or the strut??? Also, I may have to get the rear guards rolled due to the lowered ride height of my car.

I'd go for original Alfa wheels like these or 15" Ronal A1's.

So you finally got on to some wheels . I've just fitted 15x6.5s to daughters car and I was hoping to post a pic. of them for you to look at. The offset is 38 but I had to add a 4mm spacer to clear the calipers so wound up with 34 offset. This seems to clear everything nicely and ties in with previous posts recommending 33-34 for 15x7s. Admittedly the car isn't lowered yet. I was going to leave the pic until the bodykit was fitted as well. For the wheels I had to mill the stud holes in from 100mm, reseat the taper,machine the spacers and machine locator rings to fit the hubs.The things we do for our kids eh! As for your question it has to be the Fioranos? Not sure if I got that right but the second design looks too spindly to me. Good luck

Hi Richard

You will not succeed with 205/45-16 on the Sud (without modifications to the rear wheel arches).

They will touch the rear suspension arms or the wheel arch (or both!), depending on the wheel offset.

I have 195/45-16 on 7,5x16 with offset 35 mm, but at the rear I had to fit a 7 mm spacer AND modify the rear wheel arch (cut/roll the horisontal part of the wheel arch). Even then in special cases the tyre can touch the inner wheel arch high up at the horisontal crease which run at the entire lenght of the car. This can not be cured without looking very bad on the outside.

It is the same problem with Ronal A1 7x15, offset 25 mm with 195/50-15 tyres. They will touch the wheel arch (but will have about 10 mm clearance to the suspension arms).

Also remember, if you let the wheel/tyre have very little distance to the suspension arms, you must not fit balancing weights on the edge of the rim (but use the glued weights) because under cornering the load will make the balancing weight touch the the suspension arms due to deformation in the entire system.

So, you can see, that if 195 tyres just fit with precisely the right rims and offset, you will have even bigger problems with 205 tyres.

So maybe now I won't be going to the 16x7 inch rim. So if I fit 15x6.5 with 195/50's I should be sweet, and I will have a bit of money left over to buy some personalised plates with.

How does SUDOFF sound to you all as a rego plate???

With 6,5 x 15" you should go for an offset of 33-35 mm to get as few problems a possible.

Also the 195/50-15 tyres are about half the price of 195/45-16 or 205/45-16, at least in my country, due to the wide spread use of 195/50-15.

Yeah, the wheels I have settled on are a 15x6 TSW Razor... with a 35mm offset! Should look really nice, I will post some pics up when I get them, probably in around 3 months time!!! Saving of around 500 dollars over 16 inch wheels

In the meantime, I have purchased the rego plate "SUDOFF" from a guy in Christchurch!

They look remarkably similar to my wifes alloys!! Here they are on our previous 33, the new one (ex-Adam H of here) which is lowered at the back, looks a lot nicer.

Not in NZ anyway. THe 33 replaced the Sud here as elsewhere. The car in the pic is daughters 1990 1.7 Cloverleaf,yet to be lowered and get the bodykit. Cool

The wheels are similar aren't they. Wheels in NZ to fit the Alfas are few and far between and a lot of machining went into adapting these to fit.Still ,worth it I think. The car is now braver than I am. Next up is finding some 15s to fit my own 33and some seats with more location than the Alfa sports ones as I'm finding myself sliding around a bit in them. Anybody with recomendations?
