I'm getting a bonnet painted to replace my current one, and the painter has asked me to find what the colour of my black 33 is called. Something like Get-dirty-in-two-days Black, Scratch-prone Ebony, Hotissimo Stuffini or whatever name or number Alfa use to identify the particular colour.
Does anyone know how I can find this out?

On a related note, my car really didn't want to go to visit the painter.
First it wouldn't start, because it had deliberately drooled some coolant out of the reservoir and down the main ignition lead onto the coil, and allowed the rain to find its way onto the distributor cap terminals.
Then when I opened the hatch to put the bonnet in, the car drooled water out of the plastic wiper motor cover onto my custom parcel shelf with speakers. The water ran off that and onto the boot carpet.
The wipers did their intermittently intermittent trick for a while.
Then on the way I put the heater on to demist the windscreen. It soon started to smell funny, and I looked around and noticed the car had filled with a hazy smoke Exclamation
I switched that off pretty fast. Talk about the car having a mind of its own.. Shocked

You should find a paint code under the bonnet.

Here are some codes - a nice link to have.

Thanks!

I think my car's colour is Nero, code # AR905.

That code was part of a long code number pressed into the body along the 'strut brace' engine bay divider, and it was also written on a plate mounted under the bonnet near the brake master cylinder. It's always part of a longer string, not as obvious as "Paint code: AR905", but once you know what you're looking for it's easy to find. Smile

Ben,

Be Caredul assuming that the AR905 Code is your colour code as this number AR905 actually identifies the series/body style and naturally it is pressed into the areas you mention. I would be very surprised if that is your colour code. For example AR901 is the series number for suds. 905 for Series 2, 33's.

I see. =|
Why do they have a paint code that's the same as the series of car which that paint colour is used on? Rolling Eyes
In that case, where should I look for the paint code? A quick look didn't turn up any other numbers or codes apart from the plate and the code stamped into the body.

The Paint Code on my car which was illegible anyway was on a sticker underneath the carpet in the boot across the tail gate. I have never seen a paint code plate attached to any alfa and i have seen in excess of 400 of them so I am not convinced of this practice. In the end when my car got a whole new respray we just chose a nice white(you wouldnt believe that white has the most variations of any colour and is also the hardest colour to paint) We found something like 700 different whites but anyway a good panel beater will have an electstrometer which basically takes a high level sample of exisiting paintwork and can computer match it perfectly. Hope this helps

Hi Ben

Have you got any good paint shops near you,if yes just take your car down there and they should be able to colour match it, thats what i would do if you cant fine the code.they will have it on micro film.then they will give you some switch cards to get the right shade.due to fading and stuff like that.
hope that helps, as thats what we do in the UK.

all the best john

With my last car I was able to leave the petrol flap with the paint shop so they could match the colour. No such luck with the 33. But it would be easy to flake off a big piece of paint from the bonnet and give them that. Shocked

Hi,

Under the bonnet of my Alfa there is a label stating the color code "Rosso 130". Seems that AR in the series3 cars decided to make the life of the repainter more easier Rolling Eyes

Regards,

Yes, on the S3's it's on the RHS under the bonnet on highly visible a chrome sticker from PPG.

I'm not so sure that PPG delivered paint before 1991.

There is nothing earlier in their archives.
