If you've got a rotating control knob you must have a series 3 car then?
Does the fan motor work (can it blow cold air?)?
If the ventilation fan works but you can't make it give you hot air, then either:
* your heater core might be blocked up (so no coolant can flow through it)
* the flaps which direct air in your ventilation system might be broken or disconnected.
On a series 2 car you can look at the ventilation unit in the engine bay and confirm that when you move the hot air slider, the cable pulls on the arm which is connected to the hot air flap inside the ventilation unit.
The series 3 ventilation system works a bit differently, but see if you can find what the control knob is supposed to be connected to and go from there. |

Are you sure also that there is no air in the system? Does anyone know if there is an air bleed valve/screw on the cooling system anywhere?
How did you fill up the system? Normally it is good practice to have the heater set to hot and to run the engine up to temperature without the cap on and watch for bubbles in the expansion tank/top up as necessary until all the air is expelled. Let us know how you get on! |

Thanks for the reply. I do have a series 3 My a/c (cool air) works and my fan works but no hot air, however i did notice that hot air was coming from behind the middle console (where the stereo and heater controls are).
My only other concern is the clicking and hard to turn rotational nozzle. |

If you want to check whether the cables work, you can take out the 3 air-holes in the middle-console, and then you will be able to see if the flaps move as they should. If not, try move them with your hands, as they might be stuck if you haven't used them for a while. If you let the engine reach a temperature of 40-50 degress, you will easily detect which flap controls the hot air.
I have another question though. Does anyone know, if its possible to use the heating/cooling system from a series 3 in a series 2? I think everyone will agree with me in, that the system in the series 2 sucks..! I'm planning to try, but I don't want to use the middle console from the series 3, so I wont be able to use the smooth transition nob for the fan from the series 3. Anyone who knows if this is possible..!?

the fan speed regulator is just a simple selector - it has 4 or 5 positions.
it works by choosing proper configuration (serial/parallel,
short circuited) of resistors mounted inside heating unit near fan
(to prevent resistor overheating).
i don't remember how 2nd series console fan speed selector looks like, but
this is not an issue as long as it is some kind of multi position switch.

It's not a multi-position switch. Only off, slow and fast! And fast is NOT really fast.. I think I will be able to figure out the electrical stuff, but I'm not sure whether the system from the series 3 is too big to fit in a series 2. In a series 2, the fan is placed inside the car, whereas in a series 3, the fan is placed in the engine bay. But the fan in the series 3 is a lot more effective than the ones in the series 2 Do you know if it's too big to fit? |

Maze123, from the pictures on your website it looks like you already have the series 3 ventilation in your series 2 car.
Your car looks like series 2 on the outside and in the interior (except seats and gearknob), but under the bonnet it looks most like series 3, including the ventilation system. I've never seen a series 2 with a factory-fitted i.e. engine in New Zealand.
Your ventilation unit has the big round bulge nearest the engine where the fan motor presumably is. My s2's ventilation unit is a different shape: http://www.axys.co.nz/ben/alfa33/WONT_FIT.JPG
The s2 system has only two speeds because there's only one resistor it uses to make the slow speed (well both speeds are slow - I mean the really slow speed). That resistor is part of the fan motor.. but it seems a true s3 car with the rotary dial uses external resistors. Your car must be a mixture of the two systems - proof that the series 3 shape ventilation unit can fit in the series 2 car? |

Hi,
Yes I also agree with Ben. Also from what I know S2 cars did not have power assisted steering ; also the radiator in s3 cars is in front of the transverse bar where s1&s3 it is located on this bar.
In addition the windscreen tank from what i know was not located next to the battery... it used to be a large container right behind the headlight.
The grille just below the windscreen where the wipers are located look like mine which my car is a series3 33.
Quite strange - have you made any alteration to your car?

Ahh, well..I might should have told you this, since you cant understand the text below the picture of the engine bay..! The picture of the engine bay is a picture of the P4 I got home from Germany to use the engine and the interior! So yes, you're right, is the engine bay from a series 3! However, the 1.7 8v engine in my "real" 33 is an ie and it's the factory-fitted engine. It's imported from Switzerland in '97, and down there the carb-models never were introduced due to environmental restrictions (I've been told). I will upload a picture of the 8v ie engine on the website, so you can see what it looks like in a series 2!
Ben, you're right - The bulge on the ventilation system in the series 3 is where the fan and the fan-engine is. Though it's not a fan like the one in the series 2..It looks more like a fan from a turbine! This is probaly the reason to why the series 3 system is so much better than the series 2 system!
Gritsop - the windscreen wash tank usually is placed behind the headlights on the carb-models, but not the ie-models. On the ie-models it's placed inside the wing/mudguard, however, on the P4 I got, it was broken, so it has been replaced with the system from an Alfasud.. Quite funny I think..
So the picture does not proof that a s3 system will fit in a s2..Unfortunately!
