Me pal has just spent £880 getting a new tank pump and head gaskts on the last but one 16v imported into the UK (sad bastard u could buy two 16v runners for that money) and it runs like a bag of shit-ish.

So-

First off where do I get that air flow meter adjustment trick info from

Second cats don't make the exhaust steam like a kettle do they when hot (thats a bad head gasket repair??) Apparently compession is a-ok.

Thirdly I know why I don't like the 16v'ers they sound like a sewing machine (worse than the old Lancia hf turbo's and I diddn't think that was possible and not as fast to boot!!).

BUT I'm jealous, he's just been on a course to avoid an undue care and attention rap (changed lanes in a contraflow and upended about 300m of cones and lamps) and they must have put something in the tea coz he ain't thrashed it to death yet!!

Apparently the fix it gaj couldn't start it as appatently the injectors had siezed?? (sounds like shit to me) but as a carb man I can't say if this can happen. But he took the fuel rails off battred em with a hammer and all was right.

But (again) this car has 40k (he's the only owner) and my old 8v has in the past and would most certainly now leave it ABSOLUTELY sitting. The emissions are fine runs great till about 4k then runs lumpy.

Giz the gossip for all my benign shite I must deserve some input!!

ps a bus totaled my Audi the Tuesday before last and the cam tensioner went on the Escort the next day. Any 8v in the North East urgently wanted (good boby shell is all that is required preferably in red with veloce trim, furry dice optional. nearly got a 164 3.0V6 with adjustable syspension till I got an insurance quote for buisness use and I'm 34 with full no-claims, just shy of a grand MUVA FUKA)

When I say 8v I mean mk2 I don't want a Skoda clone!!

Do you mean this one?

Now turn the adjustment screw of the AFM to middle (app 7,5 turns out), then turn anti clockwise until engine starts to hunt/run uneven, then turn screw clockwise half to complete a turn.
Turn off engine, reconnect wiring and relay shaped device.


Steam Hey, Maybe you need to run it for long enough to heat up the entire exhaust, could be a bit of condensation in it.

Has the car been sitting for a while? Get some injector cleaner and stick it in the petrol tank. Otherwise maybe take the injectors out and have them ultrasonically cleaned.

Sounds like you were meant to drive an Alfa, all these other cars seem unreliable Laughing

Yes I am meant to drive a sud/33 the only time one has ever let me down is when the fuel pump went coming back from Skye on the Erskine bridge (no hard shoulder missus and kid in the car, I paniced, god bless the AA) or when I overfilled a sud with oil, it blew the dip stick out pissed oil over the inboard disks and when I braked (alarmingly slowly) it filled the car with smoke, I had to stick my head out of the window it was that thick (just like me).

Gary, you gotta have a 164 v6 even if its just for a couple of months, I had one 2years ago.They`re bloody lovely, bit thirsty though.

As for the air flow meter, take off the cover, get some circuit board cleaner, or wd 40 and use a cotton bud to clean the circuit. Only a short term cure really, I got a second hand meter from Alfa day for £10, and job jone Razz Mr. Green


I tried disconnecting the battery too, as they apparently the afm has a memory Question
