hi you all,

as I'm planning to buy a 16V QV from 1993 I was wondering where one can find the "emission block" on those engines. I make the swap from a 8V ie non cat tot the 16V cat, so I don't know much about these engines. Seems there's a device which programs the egnition to RON95 or RON 98 and it's interchageble. Hope some of you know what I mean and can help me tell which colour it should have (red or yellow if I'm wright??)
Or does anybody have some tips on buying a 16V cat version on engine tech than, all rest of 33 I know by heart, they won't have me concidering chassis, suspension and stuff... Twisted Evil

Regards!

Paul D.

white 1.7 8V zender

Hi

There is a "relay shaped device" to tell the ECU to run on different fuels. However on the later cars with a catalytic converter this switches from 91 to 95 RON I think.

All the best

Hi Keith,

could you tell me where I can find the device pleace? I'm just curious what influence it'd have on the engine.
And maybe you are familiar with the kat-engines? I was wondering if I left everything away from the manifold to the rear, and replaced it with the OMP-group N exhaust for the non kat ones, but attaching it to the manifold with the same triangular 'flenge', would that help the engine in it's performance (leaving the lambda sensor in). Or will the car run less good 'cause the ecu is programmed with the 'counter pressure' the kat delivers? And what exactly does the ecu when you disconnect the lambda sensor? Does it go on a emergency program or does it run like a non kat engine?

Some questions, but noticed you're also familiar with the 16V's... As I'm used to driving a 8V non kat , the 16V is quite new to me.

Regards, and thanx for the reply!

Hi

Afraid I am not sure where it is exactly.

You might gain some performance with that exhaust set up, but you would probably need to set it up first on a rolling road to ensure you don't have the mixture too far out. The lambda probe would probably stop this being a problem in normal use, but it is ignored on full throttle.

All the best

Keith

Paul,

Have a look at my web site for the tester T2, the photos should give you an idea where it is. The "relay shaped device" is near the connector for the tester T2.

RHD is under the bonnet to the right of the battery.
LHD is under the dash on the RHS, you can see the yellow block in this picture.

Ciao
