|
|
Hi
I have a spare 1.7 16V engine sitting on my garage. It has 2 exaust valves bent due to a broken cam belt.
I´m thinking in rebuilding it, replacing de injection and putting carburators in it.
I know some of you have done this...
Can you tell me what I have to do?
Does any one have pictures of it?
Thanks
Regards

Have a 1.7 16v running on carbs. Without problems.
The parts came from a 1.5Ti.
So thats the 1.5 carbs. linkages and mountings.
Think I used the bottom mountings from the injection engine.
The 1.7 carb setup would be better. Investigated Dellortos and Webber and found Dellortos to be less of a pain.
Fitting the carbs and bits is straight forward.
You also need to purchase an after market electric fuel pump and regulator.
The fuel pump from the injection engine is to powerfull for the Dellortos.
About 4psi pressure in the fuel line is required.
I used an 18 gallon per hour competition pump (£40 uk) and an adjustable to 6psi regulator. (£20) Cheap regulators are a bit unaccuarate.
The car has been running for about a year on this setup and one day I'll get the carbs properly jetted and the regulator adjusted on a rolling road.
Performance wise it's better than the stock injection setup, have removed the rev limiting and can rev probably higher than the 8,000 on the counter. |

Didn't take any photos.
The fitting of the carbs wasn't hard. Just used what bits from the 16v and the 1.5 ti that fitted together. All lined up well.
Tricky bit was getting the fuel lines pumps and regulators together.
Wasted some time trying to use the injection pump returning the fuel on a return line. Not a good idea. Fuel came out of the top of the carbs.
Asked at a vauhall motorsport garage for help. They advised on a Facet competition pump, regulator and suitable fuel line. What I wanted to do was similar to their 16v vauhall corsa conversion with webbers.
Will take some photos of the setup later this week and put them up at
www.stopthemetalmaggot.co.uk.
Planned to document the rebuild of my 1983 AlfaSud Ti and haven't started yet.
Get picture of the carbs, pump lines and filters. |
