Just wondering if anyone on here knows if the 16V Series 3 was ever imported into Australia with ABS and if the Series 3 Rear Axle ABS(With discs) would fit onto a series 2 body?? _________________ 5 Alfa 33's, 2 Suds God there is no help for me

Hi
Well, everything is possible...
But the rear axle, from the series 3 is different, and the suspension itself has different pick up points...
If you want my opinion, dont bother.
Upgrade your front brakes (lines, pads, discs) and your standard rear set ( lines, and good linnings)...
I`ve got a series 3 with ABS and the rear braking is never OK...
First went the brake distributtor, then the right calliper, and the hand brake is a nightmare....
Good luck

I'd avoid ABS on old cars as the co-axil on the sensors at this age will be on the way out and they are generally £70+ each you'll also have to completlely re-plumb the brakes to incorperate the control block the electro valves are also likely to start to play up (£500+) at this age then you have to wire in the ECU. Forget it totally impracticle you are better fitting an aftermarket ABS kit. |

Im not interested in the ABS I simply want a 33 rear axle that has discs not the crap useless drums. And i dont want to pay the $1400 AUS that AH Motorsports want for a conversion kit _________________ 5 Alfa 33's, 2 Suds God there is no help for me

As far as I am aware only the P4's came in with ABS and rear discs. The Sud's also had rear discs on some models.
Personally would not bother about going to the expense of converting drums to discs unless you have a really good reason. _________________ Scott Sander

My good reason is that the drum setup on the 33 is absolutely useless for the belting that i give my cars and i need to have discs. I am aware that the sud came with rear discs as i own 3 suds. I have fitted this setup but it was a real drama fitting the handbrake and having it work sufficiently so i took it off again. Thats why I was hoping to get a 16V with ABS that wasnt a P4 as I would never find a parts one of those here in Australia. I shall have to look at importing the parts now. Any of you overseas guys know where there are any 16V 33's with ABS that maybe able to turn into parts??? _________________ 5 Alfa 33's, 2 Suds God there is no help for me

Bet you won't notice the difference with discs, the only time the rear brakes really come into play is if you have passengeres/weight in the back. Discs at the rear are only found more often now on cars because of ABS systems. The rear drums on a 33 are more than capable of dealing with the deamands put on them the only real advantage of discs is the dispersal of excess heat (a good excuse to put even more vents on your car ). If overheating is the problem look for a shoe that has a higher operational temp. If your rear brakes are crap check the proportioning valve or handbrake adjustment(put the handbrake on one or two notches, if the brake pedal becomes firmer and brakes become more responsive this is your problem. It makes a HUGE difference to overall braking performance, trust me) |

re: handbrake for disc conversions
The citroen BX uses a front operated handbrake and visually the calipers(ATE) are identical to the eye except for the handbrake assembly. If you supply me with dimensions I will compre as I have ah old BX caliper/disc in the workshop. |
