Hi
Is there anyone out there who has replaced the seals in 33 (ZF) power steering rack and can tell me how to remove the centre seal assembly in the hydraulic cylinder ??

Hi,

I repaired my rack some 3 years ago when it used to "drink" the oil.
Actually the story begun when I found out that the boots were teared away.I bought two new and went to the mechanic who said that he can do the replacement.
Indeed it was successful only for a month.It then started to suck the oil.
I then took it out again and went to the ZF representative who made complete overhaul; new gaskets, seals, valves, re-grinding of the pinion etc. at the cost of 150€.

So my advice is that a ZF representative should do the job because what i have heard is that if you dismantle the rack and do not replace some critical parts it is sure that the rack will leak in the near future.
