Hi,
Would appreciate any help with respect to the steps to go through in adjusting and balancing twin carbs. I have a vacuum gauge which I can use to adjust each idle screw, but would also like to know whether a richer mixture causes the crackle or do I need to make it leaner? Vacuum gauge reading is about 40 to 50 per catb, but with a lot of movement (fluctuation). Are there any basic settings for the Webers that I should start off with? THANKS.

Hi

I started adjusting from 2 1/2 turns open. Be sure that the carbs are in balance before adjusting mixture.

Ps. Advice can be found from Alfa Sprint book, how to adjust mechanically.

Thanks Timo,
Where can I get my hands on the Alfa Sprint Book?

John,

What I think you want is the Alfasud/Sprint Haynes manual. It will cover the carbs (Dellorto and Weber) from the 1.5 engines but not the 1.7, but they are pretty much the same.

The book is still published but you could try eBay. There are usually loads listed in the UK, but I don't know about nearer you.

Thanks Timo,

Balanced the carbs as per your suggestion. To do this, I used feeler gauges to do the idle speed and throttle clearance. Then turned the jets out by 2 1/2 turns plus a little bit. It now seems to idle quite well and also has the crackle back (I have a sports muffler on the back end of the exhaust which gives (possibly) more crackle than normal.
